The Security Institute nurtures and inspires professional excellence in the security sector, through peer validated access to membership. We are largest representative British membership body for security professionals in the UK and overseas with 4000+ members from Corporate, Private and Public/ Government sectors. Our Membership benefits include the provision of security qualifications, professional development, Mentoring, focused communities and advice and support to members. We are a fully digitized organization though we value the personal approach that physical events enhance. We have moved forward in a hybrid posture which is improving a global engagement. The Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will provide operational leadership on two fronts, namely, leadership oversight of membership engagement and aspects of routine business administration.

Business administration

This includes first line management of 9 highly skilled employees. You will be responsible for business routine including financial management, staff development and appraisals, setting objectives and monitoring key results in line with our ISO9001 quality management system and quality objectives. Working with the Chief Executive, you will identify opportunities for growth, enhancing capability through the implementation of the business growth plan.

You will have oversight responsibility for the corporate partnership scheme and the Approved training partnership scheme, ensuring standards are maintained and due diligence processes are rigorous.

 

Membership engagement

In this role, it is vital that you effortlessly maintain a personable and authentic relationship with our members. Utilising the skills of the members, identify thought leaders to create knowledge sharing opportunities and engaging volunteer members in leading special interest groups and communities. You will be the focal point for the validation process, engaging with the directors that oversee that process which is the jewel in the Institute’s crown.

You will be representing us at multiple events and expos, enhancing our reputation as a transformational organisation that is inclusive and welcomes all professionals. You will need to fully understand and convey the benefits of personal development and be able to explain the advantages of membership of the Institute. It will be your drive and enthusiasm that will lead in developing excellent working relationships with all Corporate partners and Approved Training Providers. Ensuring those partners are utilised for their expertise, whilst upholding our commitment to support those businesses. It will be incumbent on you, to identify and establish new opportunities for growth and impact whilst supporting the five Business objectives.

You will be responsible for delivering a premium membership experience, ensuring the Institute continues to offer a unique and high value proposition for the members, both financially and influentially. To deliver this, you will need to be confident at delivering presentations at key industry events where the aim is to promote the Institute and the security sector more generally.

 

The Person

 

Essential.

The successful applicant will have the utmost integrity and will be a proven senior manager with a ‘hands on’ and demonstrable approach to transformational leadership.

The ability to attain Government Security Clearance (SC) will be required to engage with certain communities.

You must have a passion for serving the security community and have experience working in the sector.

You should be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to manage a high functioning team in a commercially aware environment. A growth mindset is essential.

You will need to be comfortable working with and influencing the most senior people in security sector, as well as those at the beginning of their careers. The skill to manage and motivate people at all levels of the organisation will be essential to your success.

You can expect to work from home at least two days a week. However, weekly travel to the HQ in Nuneaton and to events nationwide, when required, is intrinsic to the role.

The ability to capitalise on new and emerging technology, to innovate and see opportunities for membership engagement.

 

Desirable.

You must understand that this role is not a security management role. It is a role that impacts and influences security practice through professional development. Previous management of a membership organisation will be viewed favourably. Professional grade members of the Security Institute are encouraged to apply and will be given every consideration.

 

You may have experience in managing a small to medium enterprise business. 

 

Higher level academic qualifications in business administration.

 

The impact of this role is such that Chartered Security Professional accreditation would be an advantage. If you are not chartered yet, could you achieve it?

 

Experience of managing ISO9001 Quality Management systems.
