Security Supervisor

The post holder is responsible for the direct line management and supervision of a shift of staff delivering the operational and services of building reception desks and security duties, providing a safe and secure environment for all students, staff and visitors and their personal property, as well as ensuring the security and safety of University buildings and equipment.

 

The post holder is routinely required to think and act within a wide range of defined procedures and precedents but also frequently to use their experience, judgment and initiative to make decisions on how to respond to a variety of situations and customers, including students, staff, conference delegates, contract works staff and visitors. 

 

Post holders also coordinate response to emergencies in connection with security or safety of the environment, premises or occupants, such as fire, flood or building infrastructure failure or faults and provision of first aid etc. This is particularly important outside of core hours when the post holder may be the senior University staff representative on site and able to judge when to refer more complex situations to the on-call University duty manager.

 

Context

Property & Facilities are responsible for providing a safe and appropriate environment for all aspects of University life and the maintenance, improvement and strategic development of the estate. Property & Facilities are also responsible for the academic timetable and room bookings

 

Main duties and responsibilities

           

  • Planning and organising staff resources to meet day to day operational requirements and supporting University functions or events (including those outside of core hours) by ensuring appropriate cover is available to staff all buildings in use

 

  • Scheduling, assigning and delegating tasks, monitoring performance and correct completion to ensure quality service standards are maintained.

 

  •  Ensuring a courteous and effective delivery of a range of customer services from telephone enquiries to resource information or direction to appropriate university contacts, together with the tasking of staff to respond to a wide range of campus safety and security related requirements in support of all schools and departments.

 

  • Coordinating response to emergency, safety or security related incidents, liaising with both internal and external contacts as required, escalating issues to management as appropriate within given procedural guidelines.

 

  • Conduct interim and annual appraisals, ensure staff achieve their objectives

 

  • Maintaining records for sickness, holidays, uniform and equipment issues plus overtime.

 

  • Support the Security Manager in providing a ‘best in class’ security team.

 

Supervision of security systems, equipment and stores                                                                                                                                          

Control and operation of all security equipment and systems, including Access Control, CCTV, radios, mobile phones, and TRAKA, monitoring consumable stock and following established ordering procedures to ensure adequate resources are available to meet operational requirements.

 

Responsible for overseeing the recording and safe keeping of all found property, returning to owners where applicable, and the temporary security of AV equipment at reception points.

 

Liaison with University departments                                                                                                                                          

Obtain information from departments regarding open days, meetings, events, visitors etc to ensure reception and security staff are prepared; respond to requests for security or reception information or advice.

 

Assist with the University ID card and access control systems                                                                                                                                          

As required, assist with producing new or replacement ID cards for staff, students and visitors; remove access rights for banned persons; make amendments to the access control system timings or door controls.

 

As required, carry out duties of a Security Officer                                                                                                                                          

 

Stand in on reception desks, respond to emergencies or alarms, carry out patrols and any other functions of a Security Officer.   

 

Essential and Desirable Skills and Experience:

 

Essential:

1.      Security Industry Authority (SIA) security guard and CCTV licences.

 

2.      Working knowledge and experience of Access Control, Intruder Alarm and CCTV systems.

 

3.      Working knowledge of basic H&S regulations

 

4.      Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently

 

5.      Ability to prioritise own and officer’s workload

 

6.      Communicate clearly and effectively with all customers, both face-to-face and on the telephone.

7.      Deal confidently, positively, and tactfully with all staff, students and visitors; understand and deliver good customer service

 

8.      Good IT skills, proficient in MS Office applications including email, Excel, plus the ability to learn specialist security software, e.g ID card issuing, and access control system.

9.      Good written communication skills with the ability to write concise, clear messages, occurrence and incident reports.

10.   Ability to follow procedures and instructions and/or use initiative to respond to emergencies or incidents.

11.   Experience of working in a busy ‘customer service’ environment.

12.   Ability to plan, organise and deliver training/development activity for staff

 

Desirable Qualifications or Previous Experience:

 

13.   Previous experience of public safety or security duties.

 

14.   Hold a current First Aid at Work Certificate (or must be able to complete the First Aid training course which will be provided within the first 6 months service).

 

Essential Personal Skills and Abilities:

 

15.   Ability to move/lift light loads such as tables, chairs, packages/deliveries, operate gates/shutters.

16.   Ability to work alone and as part of a team.

Salary and Conditions of Service

The salient features of Conditions for Clerical and Certain Related Administrative staff are as follows:

 

  • The salary will be in the range of £25,941 per annum. This is on Grade 4 of the salary scales for professional, administration and support staff.

 

  • Annual Leave is 30 days, plus 8 statutory and 4 additional days during the Christmas holiday period.

 

  • You will automatically be entered into the London Pension Fund with an option to opt out.

 

  • This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such a criminal records check will be required for this post.

Analyst/Senior Analyst, Sub-Saharan Africa – Based in London

Although these are regional specialist roles, the analysts will sit within intelligence and analysis units spanning multiple regions. They will be expected to work on those other regions, specifically Europe and Eurasia.

The roles entail production of written intelligence and security risk assessments, open-source research, human source cultivation, briefing clients and other audiences, editing, client relationship management. They will also have responsibility for managing researchers, depending on the individual candidates’ seniority.

Security Manager – flexible location across the Southern half of the UK.

We are excited to be working with a £multi-billion firm who are seeking a manager to lead security across three of their niche UK operating businesses.  Reporting to the Head of Group Security, this role has responsibility for:

  • Implementing the Group Security Strategy.
  • Proactively and reactively assessing, managing and mitigating all security-related risks, including implementing cost-effective solutions to mitigate security-related threats, vulnerabilities and losses using an enterprise security risk management approach.
  • Owning the security investigations lifecycle and following current good practice.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications preferred in Security, LP, Risk Management or related disciplines, ie BSc or MSc in Security and/or Risk Management, professional certification (CPP, PSP, PCI, CSMP, MSyI, MBCI, etc.), non-confrontational interview techniques (WZ, Reid or similar) or ISO/TAPA auditor/lead auditor
  • Strong commercial acumen

Security Projects Manager – Contract

This is a great opportunity to join a great team within a truly global retail brand.  You will be responsible for a range of stores and sites nationwide, but will be able to attend their London HQ once or twice weekly. This will initially be a short-term contract.

This role will see the incumbent be responsible for aligning the security integration of their sites and stores with the group-wide European strategy and objectives.

The role and project will be split into several phases, beginning with a tabletop review where you will review and analyse the available documentation available at each site and produce a summary of findings, including areas of concern etc. From here you will then look to conduct a risk assessment and site security survey of selected sites, perform a gap analysis of the sites against the companies security directives and collect the relevant data that will support an action plan for training, improvements, and the implementation of those aforementioned security directives

You will be responsible for producing high-quality written reports of these findings (risk assessment, gap analysis, recommendations, etc.) and be able to make actionable recommendations as to how each site can be made compliant. Those recommendations include, but are of course not limited to:

  • Constructive measures
  • Technical measures
  • Organisational measures
  • Industry best practices
  • The report shall blend in findings of sites’ health & safety assessments (conducted separately)
  • The report shall provide a suggested action plan and schedule
  • Prepare an executive summary and PowerPoint presentation

With either retail security or at the very least, experience in a multi-site role, you’ll be immediately available and possess demonstrable project management skills.
