What are the key responsibilities of the Security Officer role?

As a Security Officer you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of the UK’s number one visitor attraction, protecting the Museum, its visitors, staff, and collection by providing a professional and proactive security service. You will undertake tasks such as, patrolling, guarding, and responding to customer enquiries across the Museum estate.

What might a normal day look like?

You will be protecting the Museum and interacting with visitors across a number of different posts such as: managing crowds at the entrances; completing bag searches and checking for prohibited items; patrolling the Museum and its estate to provide a visible presence; undertaking Health and Safety and emergency responsibilities; and responding to alarms and incidents across the estate. In every post you might have to respond rapidly to changing situations all while engaging with visitors and providing them with guidance and a reassuring presence. You will also be required to provide information and guidance to visitors on all areas, including special exhibitions, the public programme, collections, and facilities.

Skills and Experience – Requirements:

 

Candidates must have a valid SIA Door Supervisor licence, with the following skills and experiences:

  • Experience and Knowledge of working in an operational security role.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to understand visitor needs and respond appropriately.
  • High level of awareness and responsiveness security situations
  • Ability to effectively respond to emergency situations and undertake rapid response activities.
  • Able to take responsibility for tasks, only escalating these where required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team and follow instructions and processes in routine and emergency situations.

What are the key responsibilities of the Control Room Officer role?

As a Control Room Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of the UK’s number one visitor attraction, protecting the Museum, its visitors, staff and collection by providing a professional and proactive security control room operation service. You will undertake tasks such as monitoring live security feeds and security, safety, building and fire responses, coordinating the Museum’s response to incidents and alarm activations, and maintaining the Museums Control Room technology. </div>

What might a normal day look like?

You will be protecting the Museum from the Control Room where you will undertake a number of different roles including monitoring the fire and security systems from across the Museum to look for issues, controlling radio channels and coordinating the Museum response to incidents. You will need good attention to detail, be able to make quick and effective decisions and utilise the technology and resources effectively in resolving issues.

 

Skills and experience Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience in Control Room technology and functions in crowded spaces and venues, and the following skills and experiences:

  • <div>excellent attention to detail and able to remain vigilant over long periods of time
  • able to apply security principles and procedures to different situations
  • confident communicator able to provide clear information in emergency situations
  • able to coordinate responses and control radio traffic

Security Operations Consultant – Operational Delivery (12-month post)

Background:      This is a new and exciting opportunity for an individual to help shape and develop the capability of the West End Security Group (WESG) to address the risk posed by the ongoing terrorist threat.  WESG is an association of Business Improvement Districts (BID’s) and large property owning companies that work collaboratively to improve planning and preparation for incidents that have the potential to cause significant disruption to business.  Representing over 6,000 commercial premises across the West End, WESG is playing a formative part in enhancing business resilience.  Working alongside other consultant advisors, the Operations Consultant will play a key part in the work of WESG. 

 

Working to and on behalf of the WESG Chair/Strategic lead and supported by the WESG Security Consultant Advisor, the Operations Consultant will assist in:

 

·        Maintaining regular contact with all WESG delivery leads and where appropriate, actively supporting the development and delivery of WESG member security activity; this includes regular visits to each member

·        Supporting the exchange of security good practice between WESG members

·        Actively supporting the coordination of security activity and opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between members

·        Maintain links with all key external stakeholders at the tactical and operational level ensuring that the interests of WESG are appropriately represented, that WESG actively contributes to and informs relevant security developments, and that relevant activity is communicated to WESG members

·        Ensuring that actions arising from WESG meetings, seminars and exercises are progressed

·        Supporting the delivery of training and exercising identified as necessary for WESG as a Group

·        Acting on behalf on the WESG Security Consultant Advisor when required to do so

·        Undertaking administrative work on behalf of WESG as necessary including promoting WESG via social media platforms

·        Identifying trends, emerging risks and insights regarding counter terrorism, and communicating these effectively to WESG members to ensure a proactive risk mitigation approach

 

The post will suit a highly motivated, self-starting individual, who can work confidently and independently with appropriate support from part time line management.  Knowledge of and/or a keen interest in the areas of crisis management, business continuity and a broad understanding of current terrorist issues is an essential requirement for this post. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication in a range of audiences and styles including some social media understanding. A willingness to learn and the ability to quickly grasp key concepts and apply them practically are also important.  The post holder will be working closely with the Security Consultant Advisor who will provide support and guidance as required.

 

Circa £30,000 per annum. Negotiable up to £35,000 depending on experience.

Full time, 37.5 hours per week. No fixed location: home-based or potential to hot desk in a range of central London partners’ locations by arrangement if desired. Plenty of site meetings and area tours as required.

Main Duties

Operations

  • To be aware of and ensure compliance with all aspects of policies and relevant legal and regulatory requirements as directed by the Security Account Manager and in accordance with UK Law and Guidance bodies.
  • Fully and satisfactorily complete all of the tasks and duties on site as defined within the published Assignment Instructions (AI’s).
  • Proactively refer to and review the published Assignment Instructions, thus familiarising oneself with any changes in order to suggest additional amendments that will improve or enhance the current level of service.
  • To be compliant with Industry and Statutory Legislation (you are required to obtain a front-line licence in either Security Guarding or Door Supervision), which must be worn at all times whilst carrying out your duties. The Customer also requires a CCTV PSS SIA Licence. There are also additional courses that are contractually required.

Training

  • Fully and satisfactorily complete all required competency training.

  • You are required to ensure you renew your licence 16 weeks before expiry.

Security and Health & Safety

  • Look out for, and to immediately report, any Health & Safety hazards, or potential hazards, on site.
  • Stay alert to any threats or changes within the work environment in order to take the appropriate action to reduce the chance of disruption, loss or damage.
  • Use common sense and initiative by immediately involving others if a situation appears to become threatening.
  • To maintain professional conduct in the face of difficult situations and challenging customers
  • Complete an accurate, detailed notebook entry as soon as possible after any incident, which can then be used as part of the Incident Report process.
  • Keep to schedules and demonstrate commitment to Mitie and the Client.

·        Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary set of stakeholders across different levels, with minimal supervision
