Nuclear Safety Inspectors – Leadership/Management & Site Protection/Transport

The role

Nuclear Inspectors are expected to be capable of undertaking a variety of roles:

The role of a Nuclear Inspector is varied and you are likely to undertake a range of duties during your career. Some Inspectors concentrate on undertaking planned and reactive inspections on site, while others will mainly assess safety submissions or manage discrete intervention projects.

However, the focus is on working as teams to ensure compliance, reassure the public and improve safety standards. When Inspectors find shortcomings in compliance they initially provide advice but may issue verbal and written warnings. The powers available to inspectors enable them to serve Enforcement Notices and ultimately initiate prosecutions. There is also a wide range of powers available under nuclear license conditions.

Security Advisor

Bylor is a joint venture between Bouygues and Laing O’Rourke to build the new nuclear reactor site at Hinkley Point, Hinkley Point C (HPC).
 
This post will work under the guidance of the Bylor Security Manager who has security responsibility for the Bylor project.  The focus of the role is to assist in the development and maintenance of security solutions which protect Bylor’s people, physical assets, information and reputation within the HPC site. The role is site based and will operate at an operational level across Bylor’s platforms and work areas within the HPC site.


Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Bylor Security Manager to ensure security compliance and standards are maintained at an operational level
  • Have an in depth understanding of all HPC site security related policies and procedures Provide detailed weekly reports to the Bylor Security Manager as required and/or specified
  • Become the first point of contact within Bylor for any operational security related issues, incidents or emergencies with Bylor’s areas of responsibility
  • Promote security compliance and awareness amongst the entire Bylor workforce
  • Forge and maintain a close working relationship with onsite Nuclear New Build (NNB) Operational Security Team and onsite Avon & Somerset Police officers
  • Work within the HPC site Tier 1 security community to enhance security cultureMaintain strategic and tactical threat and risk assessments to the Bylor project and monitor effective control measures to manage them
  • Develop appropriate strategies that proactively contribute to the safety and security of our workforce, visitors and contractors, the reduction of harm, loss and damage to our physical assets, data, information, reputation and business resilience

Candidate Profile

  • Relevant security experience/qualifications essential.  Minimum of 3 years security experience in the construction and engineering industry (or a similar industry – oil, gas, mining, international retail or FMCG)
  • Intellectual depth – must be able to demonstrate commitment or willingness to continuous professional development.
  • Language skills: English (fluent spoken and written), articulate and confident  presenter in meetings
  • Personal and professional integrity of the highest caliber; must undergo rigorous pre-employment screening, site vetting process and successful site induction

About the role

About you

  • Security related credentials are essential, preferably Home Office/Security Service/Armed Forces trained with proven relevant experience in delivering effective security advice to utility, commerce or retail businesses in crime reduction e.g. crime prevention through environmental design preferably qualified through the College of Policing or Home Office. 
  • Membership of an accredited institution – i.e The Security Institute.

  • Experience of managing Government marked information and material up to and including SECRET. 
  • Strong and effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills. 
  • Physically fit as the role can be physically demanding at times. 
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant security or resilience discipline. 
  • A full valid UK driving licence. 

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of criminal statutes and working of the courts, knowledge of law enforcement agencies and Security Services, existing and new legislation and programs relating to protective security. 
  • Strong analytical, organisational, financial management and administrative experience within the security industry or UK law enforcement or security agency. 
  • A proven track record of successfully delivering business requirements to time and budget constraints.
