Job description

Crypto Services for Defence (CSD) is a dynamic, fast paced, cyber-focused environment, vastly advancing and developing to meet with emerging technologies, to provide security of MOD data.

The Equipment Team role will see you Inventory managing vital Cryptographic equipment’s, as part of the MOD in-service provision and the co-ordinating the repair activities of all Cryptographic equipment across Defence set within MOD policies. The role will include Foreign Military Sales (FMS), the upkeep of CSD documentation, databases, forms, and including the through life management and final disposal.

Responsibilities 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Inventory Management- Timely issue of stock to the correct locations.
  • Supplier Management – Engage with International and National Agencies to ensure the initial delivery and appropriate whole life inventory management of all sovereign & Allied Nations cryptographic items.
  • ITAR Compliance – Provide guidance and assistance to MOD & Civilian entities to ensure the correct ITAR controls are in place.
  • Foreign Crypto Procurement – Provide guidance to MOD Project Teams, assisting with the submission of all MOD Crypto Controlled Items (CCI) via the Foreign Military Sales (FMS).
  • Crypto Repair Management – Ensure MOD funding is in place for all U.S. Crypto items needing repair.
  • Asset & Data Management – Ensure Item Data Records (IDRs) are maintained on the appropriate systems.
  • Stakeholder Liaison & Customer Management – Utilise clear written and verbal communication skills through the appropriate means to engage with military and civilian customers.
  • Maintain Materiel and Financial accounting data – Action financial requests/queries in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the repair and final materiel disposal transactional processes are followed, ensuring strict security controls and environmental concerns are followed.

Dependent on the business need, there will be a requirement to travel to external meetings, undertake courier duties, attend customer sites, or visit other places of work at short notice, therefore a full (manual) UK driving licence is essential, as public transport is rarely available.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working from home as a personal choice (if the role is suitable for this).  If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Allowances – A Market Skills allowance of up to £3k per annum may be applicable to this role, paid in increments upon reaching agreed criteria.

Job description

The team has the capability to “hot task” high priority debriefings to take place within 24 hours of an event which may result in occasions where shifts change at short notice.

JDT operations are expanding significantly across the UK – the roles advertised are based in the Heathrow estate. You will need to be flexible and dedicated in your approach to the role – with a determined focus to ensure the JDT successfully operates to meet Home Office Intelligence Strategic Objectives. Your role will focus on intelligence debriefing within Heathrow terminals, detention centres and local accommodation, police stations, prisons and immigration reporting centres.

You are expected to be mobile and flexible in covering other areas when business needs demand in response to priority tasking. You can expect to travel between different locations within your area to complete debriefing activity. This includes detention centres, migrant accommodation, HM Prisons, and air / sea ports.

You will be expected to complete a specialist debrief training course and specific intelligence training to undertake this role. The training will be held outside of London, possibly in the South East, for up to  5 to 10 days. Officers must attend this training to be permitted to operate as an intelligence debriefer.

Due to the critical nature of this role, it is a prerequisite for you to already possess a valid, current travel document which will enable them to enter any EU country for work without restrictions.

Duties Will Include:

  • Responding to significant events on a regional and national level – including joint operations and urgent deployments (as directed by senior managers).

About the JIO

The Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO) primarily supports the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) and the Foreign Policy and Security Council, the Prime Minister and other key decision-makers by providing authoritative, robust all-source intelligence assessment on a vast range of national security and foreign policy priorities.

Our work covers, and goes beyond, ‘traditional’ national security topics such as geopolitical issues and threats to British interests. We apply a national security lens to issues such as emerging technology, economic and health security, climate change and horizon scanning (for example, identifying and monitoring countries at risk of instability).

The Professional Head of Intelligence Assessment (PHIA) was established in 2005. The post and associated team is part of the JIO and leads on the development of the UK intelligence community’s analytical capability.

Annual salary increases will depend upon individual performance and contribution to the organisation’s success. In addition there will be the opportunity to earn performance related bonuses.

Existing civil servants can take up the post on loan from their parent department for the duration advertised (permission from their parent department would need to be secured in order to take up the post). Those joining on level transfer will retain their current salary. Staff joining on promotion terms will receive up to a 10% increase of their current basic salary or the pay band minimum whichever is the greater. Staff joining on promotion will adopt the modernised terms and conditions of employment which came into force in 2013.

Intelligence & Operational Support Officer

London* – For London based roles your contractual place of work will be Endeavour Square, Stratford. However, as that site will not be operational until early 2025 in the interim period you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Spring Gardens, Vauxhall or such other reasonable location. Job summary

Extradition is the formal procedure for requesting the surrender of a person from one country to another for the purpose of prosecution, to be sentenced for an offence for which the person has already been convicted or to carry out a sentence which has already been imposed.
The National Extradition Unit comprises a team of officers with operational responsibility for the coordination and management of extradition related cases. The unit is made up of two hubs, one based in London and one in Warrington.


The unit:

  • Provides 24/7 tactical advice & support in all reactive extradition related encounters;
  • Receives, triages and risk assesses all incoming requests from overseas territories where the requested person is believed to have a footprint in the UK;
  • Undertakes enquiries to locate and arrest fugitives sought for extradition utilising all available tactical methods where requests are graded as medium risk, high risk or complex that are believed to be within E&W (low risk enquiries are tasked to local police forces);
  • Monitors the outcomes of court hearings, manages bail compliance and coordinates enforcement activity in relation to breaches;
  • Processes & coordinates all removals from E&W where a surrender has been ordered
  • Provides guidance and tactical advice to law enforcement on searching for fugitives overseas
  • Undertakes all collections where arrests of fugitives wanted by E&W are located abroad

Person specification

You will be part of the Intelligence & Operational Support Team which has two primary responsibilities:

  • To provide intelligence support and specialist covert capabilities to extradition fugitive enquiries.
  • Case review, allocation and management to both extradition ops teams and police forces across England and Wales.

You will work alongside a team of police and police staff intelligence officers and led by a police supervisor.  It is expected you will be a source of expert advice across a broad range of specialist covert policing tactics.

You should have practical experience of both surveillance, the use of communications data and the management of applications under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and the Investigatory Powers Act 2006.


The role requires the supervision of the receipt of intelligence from both UK and international partners ensuring appropriate dissemination, oversight and management in line with the principles of the National Intelligence Model.

His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde (HMNB) Clyde is home to the United Kingdom’s Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Attack Submarines, Sandown Class Mine Hunter Vessels and 43 Cdo Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance base within the Navy Command TLB and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. HMNB Clyde’s primary purpose is to provide engineering and logistical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). Role responsibilities:

  • Analyse and evaluate intelligence information to support and inform decision making in the prevention of security breaches and management of incidents. Where required, undertake further analysis on Security Incidents Reports (SIRs) that require it
  • Produce a monthly Intelligence Report and disseminate it as required within the establishment, collating feedback, before presenting the report at the monthly Security meeting
  • Regularly update line management regarding local security issues and any intelligence received
  • Make sure that the security intelligence system is updated, maintained, used appropriately and that staff are trained in its use as required

  • Monitor prisoner communications in line with relevant local/national policies, audit standards, LSS and the IOCCO requirements
  • Support the Establishment Corruption Prevention Manager in detecting staff ‘wrongdoing’, preventing and detecting crime
  • Act as the liaison for the BRENT secure fax
  • Act as point of contact for all Violent and Sex Offender Register (ViSOR) issues in the security department
  • Liaise with external stakeholders regarding Counter Terrorism and Extremism

  • Organise, produce and maintain accurate records for the area of work
  • Act as contact point for all communications to the Team, prioritise and distribute to the appropriate person or relevant department in the establishment

  • Input requisitions on the finance database for purchases in the area of work
  • Co-ordinate any awareness sessions for  the area of work

The key duties of a Security Officer are as follows.

Job description

Crypto Services for Defence (CSD) is a dynamic, fast paced, cyber-focused environment, vastly advancing and developing to meet with emerging technologies, to provide security of MOD data.

We are recruiting for 3 positions within CSD, in our Key Ordering Team, the Electronic Key (EKey) team and the Accounts team.

In our Accounts team, the role will provide support in the ordering, management, distribution, and in-service provision of all Cryptographic services, across Defence. Due to the nature of work this role is office based at MOD Corsham.

In our EKey team, the role will manage EKey delivery and ensure all cryptographic material is authorised for issue and delivered on time. Due to the nature of work this role is office based at MOD Corsham.

In our Key Ordering team, the role will manage the ordering to distribution of cryptographic material, and in-service provision of all Cryptographic services across Defence set within MOD polices. Following training this role may be open to Hybrid working possibly up to 2 days working from home with 3 days in the office, whilst being flexible to meet the business need.

You’ll utilise Office 365 applications, along with Remedy and other bespoke MOD IT systems and work across many areas, driving the team to work towards the larger Defence Digital Service Executive Model.
