Our Military Data Team directly supports Defence contingent operations and capability by providing maritime data, products, and services as part of our Defence public task.

Maritime Foundation GEOINT (MFG) is an Esri ArcGIS Enterprise capability that allows the connected user to search, discover, visualise, annotate, analyse, download and exploit authoritative Foundation Geospatial Intelligence provided by the UK Hydrographic Office on MOD fixed infrastructure accessed through a common geospatial portal.

MFG is transitioning from development and experimentation within private beta to a secure operational support service with 500+ concurrent Defence users. The purpose of this role is to underpin MFG availability as a web enabled operational service to ensure smooth operation and provision of maritime geospatial data to Defence users. The role is an integral part of the newly re-structured Defence Operations Team and is vital in keeping MFG operational, up-to-date and secure.

The role will work closely with the existing Defence MFG Development Team fostering a seamless integration between system administration, maintenance, and enhancement.

This is a newly created role and there will be some creative opportunity to evolve it. There will be extensive training available and colleague support on MFG for the first months in the role. It is likely that the role will develop to support other operational systems.

Hybrid Working

The Military Data Management Team are in office for a minimum of 4 days per week.  Hybrid working is supported and coordinated through the management chain.

  • Supervise all Security Officers on shift at the Unit, deploying them to cover tasks as laid out in Assignment Instructions and in accordance with the Joint Business Agreement/GSSOR

Employment Hours

48 hours gross (including breaks). You will normally work 48 hours per week including a daily meal break (43 hours net). Job description

We are looking for a Security and Resilience Risk Identification and Assessment Lead to join our Risk and Resilience Strategy team here in the Department for Transport.

This is an exciting position which will oversee the process of the civil contingency risk review for the Department and working wider across Government including on the National Security Risk Assessment; CONTEST counter-terrorism framework; undertaking capability assessments; and implementing the HMG Resilience Framework.

As a part of this team, you will work with teams across DfT, other government departments, and with academic and industry partners, to build the department’s resilience to future threats and hazards through effective risk management. These could range from state threats and terrorist incidents to natural hazards such as flooding and volcanic eruptions and understanding the impact of emerging technology on these risks. There will be some scope for individual tailoring of focus areas according to expertise and interest, and plenty of opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge, particularly in leadership.  

This role sits within the Transport Resilience and Response Directorate within DfT, which is home to the Transport Security Operations Centre (TSOC) Division. TSOC’s principal objective is to ensure the Department is to prepare for, mitigate and respond to a major incident(s) impacting the UK transport network, UK passengers and protecting wider UK Government interests.

Job summary

Cyber security plays an integral role in protecting the UK against external and internal threats, acting as a deterrence to ensure that our Armed Forces have the strong cyber defences they need.

The Cyber Defence and Risk (CyDR) team is at the forefront of Cyber Security and Information Technology within Defence and is responsible for enabling Defence through the provision of specialist assurance and cyber security services across UK Defence, including industry partners, other Government Departments and our international allies. Services provided by CyDR include:

  • MOD defensive cyber strategy development
  • Development of cyber security policy
  • Managing and driving mitigation of Departmental cyber risk
  • Security assurance and accreditation support and advice

Job description

The Security Clearance Officer position sits within the Operations Team in the CyDR Directorate. We are a small, highly specialised team that provides clearance information for CyDR Wyton personnel for visits to national and international locations and for the administration, verification, and transmission of Non-Operational Overseas security clearances worldwide, for Service and Civilian personnel, up to and including ministerial level.

Comprehensive training will be provided, including an initial 2-day course in Bedfordshire. We don’t expect you to know everything but you’ll need the passion and motivation to learn, allowing us to support your continuous professional development.

Person specification

Responsibilities will include:

  • Protect the integrity of the secure clearance area in accordance with MOD policy.
  • Produce local standing orders in according with MOD policy and procedures.
  • Complete security inductions and de-inductions for CyDR personnel.
  • Provide management information to support queries and outputs to internal/external stakeholders.
  • The monitoring of the administration, verification, and transmission of Non-Operational Overseas Clearances worldwide for Service and Civilian personnel, up to and including ministerial level.
  • The monitoring and maintaining of two security clearance databases for all RAF and civilian personnel.
  • Provide support to the Operations Team as directed by the Operations Manager.
