The posts will be based in MOD Main Building, London with occasional travel to other MOD sites.

The post-holders will work on a high profile, challenging and distinctive security portfolio, gaining a unique insight into the fascinating world of nuclear security. These 2  posts will work across the 3 Enterprise Security Assistant Heads and with the AUKUS programme, supporting Australia to acquire a nuclear-powered submarine capability. The post-holders will collaborate closely with key stakeholders from across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise to ensure a coherent and coordinated approach to security. The two posts will each support the following areas:

  • Threats, Vulnerabilities, Risk and security policy
  • International Security
  • Security Governance and the supply chain

These posts are within DNO’s Enterprise Security Team but will also work closely with the AUKUS Security Assistant Head, who is embedded within the AUKUS Programme Delivery Office (PDO), which will cohere the UK’s activity in support of the AUKUS endeavour.

Due to the nature of the role and time zone differences, liaison with Australian colleagues will require the Post Holders to attend VTC calls from the office (probably once every couple of weeks) in the late evening and/or early morning. It is expected that the Post Holders will start later/finish earlier on days when such calls occur. An allowance is available for staff required to work between 1900 and 0700.

Due to the sensitive nature of both roles, both Post Holders will be expected to spend approximately 80% of their time working from the London office.

This is a high-profile and challenging leadership role at the heart of the UK’s foreign and security policy machine. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of UK policy for the FCDO response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and for Eastern Europe and Central Asia policy. The Director General is also responsible, globally, for issues relating to:

  • defence and international security;
  • national security and intelligence;
  • information threats;
  • crisis preparedness and;
  • consular services.

The DG also acts as the Foreign Secretary’s most senior adviser on the most sensitive intelligence issues, including in supporting him to fulfil his responsibilities for the agencies. The postholder is the FCDO member of the cross-departmental committee that advises the Prime Minister on the UK’s nuclear deterrent and the FCDO’s principal member of the Joint Intelligence Committee.

As a Board member, the job holder will be part of the FCDO’s corporate leadership responsible for ensuring the health of the department and that it meets the foreign and development policy objectives of Ministers.

The REMIT Case Work and Policy team promotes and protects the integrity and transparency of wholesale gas and electricity markets so that they work for GB consumers.

The team’s major functions include:

  1. Monitoring the markets for potential breaches of REMIT (Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency), which includes prohibitions on market manipulation and insider trading, and certain generation licence conditions such as Transmission Constraint Licence Condition (TCLC).

The Role

We’re recruiting for a Security Policy Technical Writer to be part of the warm and collaborative Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Security Policy, Awareness, Culture and Education (SPACE) team.

This role focuses on developing and maintaining security policy and guidance information. The goal is to enable and advance a healthy security culture across the MoJ.
