Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to help drive forward the Joint Intelligence Organisation’s (JIO) use of graphic design, data visualisation and other forms of visual storytelling as a core part of our intelligence assessment. We are looking for a dedicated individual with an aptitude for creativity to join the JIO’s Insights Hub as a Senior Information Designer. This is a unique opportunity to continue developing a unique capability within the UK intelligence assessment community. Candidates should have a passion for finding new and innovative ways to visualise unique stories within intelligence assessment.
The JIO Insights Hub fosters a culture of innovation and inclusion, believing our success comes through diversity of thought, experience and background. You will be empowered to manage the day-to-day projects, develop relationships across the organisation and try new ideas which will drive forward the JIO’s bar-setting vision for high-value, innovative intelligence assessment.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the centre of UK national security. You’ll be creating visual products which ultimately help to inform the UK’s response to priority national and international issues on a daily basis.
Job description
About the JIO
The Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO) primarily supports the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) and the Foreign Policy and Security Council, the Prime Minister and other key decision-makers by providing authoritative, robust all-source intelligence assessment on a vast range of national security and foreign policy priorities.
Our work covers, and goes beyond, ‘traditional’ national security topics such as geopolitical issues and threats to British interests. We apply a national security lens to issues such as emerging technology, economic and health security, climate change and horizon scanning (for example, identifying and monitoring countries at risk of instability).
You can read more about working for the JIO in the information pack attached at the bottom of this advert.
The Role
As a Senior Information Designer, you will be managing the day-to-day production of best-in-class visual assessments. You will also be working with the Principal Designer, the Graphics Desk and wider Insights Hub Specialists to find new and innovative ways to visualise intelligence assessment for the Prime Minister and other senior officials. You will be responsible for imagining, creating and maintaining these visual experiences to help our customers understand the latest assessments. Focusing on one or more specialities – such as graphic design, digital illustration and/or data visualisation – you will produce high-impact infographics and other visuals on a daily basis, collaborating with subject matter experts on the most important national security issues of the day.
This post is only open to British Citizens. Some dual nationals may be ineligible. The successful candidate must obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance if not already held. As they will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Applications from candidates with close connections to certain countries may take considerably longer to process, or in some cases result in a withdrawal of an offer of employment. Further details will be provided at the conditional offer stage.
