The Intelligence Alerts Assistant roles being recruited for, will form part of Casework Intelligence (CWI) newly created Intelligence Alerts Team.

The core function of Casework Intelligence is the development of intelligence to identify and disrupt organised crime groups in the UK and overseas. Casework Intelligence’s transformation goes hand in hand with UK Visas & Immigrations (UKVI) plans to reduce its footprint overseas and increase its function in the UK.

Casework Intelligence provides intelligence support to UKVI; identifying and mitigating fraud and developing intelligence-led disruptions of Organised Immigration Crime (OIC) groups targeting the casework system.

The team works closely with HO International Operations counterparts overseas; sharing intelligence where possible to facilitate upstream disruption and Crime Development Teams (CDTs) where the organisers of abuse are UK based.

Person specification

The newly formed Intelligence Alerts team act as the single point of contact for caseworkers to obtain information on intelligence alerts found on Home Office systems. The teams function is to manage the inbox where requests are received and provide a suitable response in a timely manner, whilst ensuring it follows the required operational guidance.

This new team is fast paced and busy and requires an attention to detail and the ability to breakdown sometimes complex written information and simplify this to provide a response. The ability to be organised, focussed and have good attention to details skills would beneficial. The team will also be required to assess incoming requests to ensure alert relevance ensuring reviews on alerts from the originator if required.

The CI Analyst supports the CIO in providing the HdSy the operational capability for delivering Counter Intelligence support at HMNB Portsmouth. The role holder is responsible for direct Counter Intelligence collection and assessment activity to ensure that teams are appropriately tasked, and threats identified.  The CIA identifies and understands the threat and determines what assets need protecting advising the CIO on how this can be achieved.  The CIA supports the delivery of an Insider Threat mitigation programme and undertakes a Counter Intelligence estimate process to inform the HdSy and Naval Base Commander of currents threats within the Area of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive CI activities to identify, disrupt, deny, exploit and mitigate the threat from hostile actors.
  • Identify new, confirmed or likely Counter Intelligence (CI) casework through liaison and engagement with NCHQ PSyA CI Sect, MDP Special Branch, Royal Navy Police, Local Police Authorities, Unit Security Officers and other Naval Base Stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing a programme of activity that is concentrated on the identification and counter action of the Insider Threat.
  • Provide operational and investigative support to CI investigations and operations, ensuring CI investigations are carried out thoroughly, professionally and expeditiously in accordance with JSP 440 Supp 3 and DI CI policies.
  • Organise CI interviews and assist in conducting these interviews when required.
  • Ensuring that all Restricted Country Travel reporting and records are maintained and that the policy is regularly reviewed and published.
  • Conduct searches of the Intelligence Processing Service (IPS) Database (Db) and other Dbs and analyse results using Intelligence Analysis Tools and carry out effective case management and create, maintain and update CI records, including case files, IPS records and monthly management reports.
  • Developing relationships with units at the Naval Base and other RN assets to understand their CI and threat requirements and reporting to Senior CI Section Officers.
  • Support CIO in the continuous delivery and update of a CI Estimate using the governing principles of Intelligence Preparation of the Environment (IPE) and be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of Question 1 briefs to NBC and the Naval Base Senior Security Leadership team.
  • Delivering information in formal CI and threat reports or as presentations.
  • Support CIO in reporting security breaches and incidents to Defence and Navy Command authorities so that an auditable trail of events exists.
  • Produce CI Section monthly and annual stats and produce reports for CIO.

Person specification

The post holder should essentially, be educated to A Level standard or equivalent experience.  It is essential that they have experience in the Security Industry (or relevant) and it is desirable that they have experience in the Military or defence industry.

The successful candidate must be prepared to undertake all relevant CI / Protective Security training courses if not already qualified.

The post holder must be prepared to successfully complete the National Security Vetting – Developed Vetting process following appointment.

Senior Manager – CSERB-DRB (Child Sexual Exploitation Referrals Bureau – Designated Reporting Body)

The CSERB is a critical national function supporting the Agency’s fight against online Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). Acting as the gateway for online CSA reporting, referrals are  received from well-known electronic service providers (ESPs) such as TikTok, Facebook, Dropbox and YouTube via the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).


The CSERB has been designated the UK reporting body under the new Online Safety Bill. CSERB will receive online CSA reports from UK companies. This new capability will be integrated with current operations to enhance the Agency’s response to tackling online CSA and coordinating UK law enforcement’s response to safeguarding victims and pursuing offenders.  The CSERB/Designated Reporting Body has been identified as a critical deliverable by the NCA Board.

As a proactive intelligence function the CSERB assesses online CSA reports to determine offences committed, identify risk factors and pursue serious child sex offenders. The CSERB works closely with the NTC, Tasking and CEOP Investigations to identify high harm targets that require an Agency response. Acting as the UK’s central coordination of NCMEC reports the CSERB also works closely with Forces to help protect children from sexual abuse and bring child sex offenders to account.
