An exciting opportunity exists to join the Defence Intelligence Counter Intelligence (DI CI) Insider Threat (InTh) team, a key part of Defence and the UK Intelligence Community. DI CI has an expanding portfolio within a high-profile mission team, focussed entirely on understanding and mitigating security threats across Defence. DI CI InTh are recruiting two Compromise Assessment Analysts to sit within one of the three InTh teams. Job description

The Compromise Assessment Team (CAT) provides Defence Intelligence with the ability to assess the intelligence effects of uncontrolled compromises of UK Defence material. If successful you will form party of a wider team seeking to understand the implication and damage of comprises to personnel, capabilities and activities. You will need to be able to produce timely and high-quality assessments that provide critical advice on protective security and mitigation measures and will be comfortable briefing at all levels, including Senior Officials and Military Commanders. A key part of this will involve building and maintaining relationships across Defence, Whitehall and with our International Allies.

You will also work with the DI CI InTh CAT Team Leader to support the continuous improvement and professional development of the Insider Threat Compromise Assessment capability, including advancing assessment methodology and complying with legal, ethical and professional standards.  A key part of this will involve helping shape the digital forensic strategy and ensuring that as a team you are able to ingest, view and exploit recovered compromised Defence data from digital assets.

The principal duties of the Compromise Assessment Analyst post are to:

  1. Work with partners to proactively identify when compromises occur and ensure that they are timely reported through Defence Intelligence and MoD channels.
  2. Conduct compromise triage to generate overall understanding of the scale and complexity of Defence compromises.
  3. Conduct analysis of compromised data to identify the potential intelligence impact to Defence. These should be based on knowledge of the way in which Terrorism, Espionage, Sabotage, Subversion and Organised Crime (TESSOC) threat actors make use of Defence data.
  4. Experience carrying out detailed research of a variety of open sources, gathering and analysing complex information with a careful and methodical approach in recording information and preserving integrity.
  5. Conduct forensic imaging and processing of digital devices using a range of software and techniques.
  6. Assist with the collection, recording, quality assurance, retention, analysis and dissemination of sensitive intelligence and reports.
  7. Work with risk owners and subject matter experts to conduct in depth analysis into the impact of a compromise to specific high priority areas. Provide support from an intelligence perspective to efforts to conduct any subsequent mitigations.
  8. Provide assessment support to investigative cases.
  9. Develop and maintain an understanding of the capability community across Defence and the points of contact for compromise assessment.
  10. Support the development of Defence’s compromise assessment capability.
  11. Maintain across government relationships.
  12. Support the development of an appropriate compromise assessment practitioner training pipeline, underpinning policy, doctrine and SOPs as required.

The nature of this role may mean there is a risk that you will see offensive or distressing material during your work. Whilst this should be a consideration when applying, training and support will be provided.

The posts will involve occasional travel to RAF Wyton and MoD Main Building, London. Additional travel within the UK and overseas may also be required.

Navy Command – Security Access Control 10

Faslane Port, Scotland, G84 8HL

Job summary

His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde (HMNB Clyde) is home to the United Kingdom’s Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Attack Submarines, Sandown Class Mine Hunter Vessels and 43 Cdo Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance base within the Navy Command TLB and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. HMNB Clyde’s primary purpose is to provide engineering and logistical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year.
RNAD Coulport is responsible for the storage, processing, maintenance and issue of the Trident Weapon System and the ammunitioning of all submarine-embarked tactical weapons.

HMNB Clyde is the single operational home of the Submarine Service and will become the United Kingdom’s Submarine Centre of Excellence. This single integrated operating base is to ensure that the Royal Navy can deliver its operational commitments across all Defence Lines of Development from Scotland on an enduring basis.

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Security Access Control Team based at HMNB Clyde. We are seeking an enthusiastic customer focused applicant to join a busy and committed team. The Security Access Control 10 post will primarily support access requirements for the Roya Navy Submarine Training Centre (Formally SMTF) in addition to being responsible for key tasks in support of permanent and temporary visitors at HMNB Clyde Faslane and Coulport. The successful applicant will have responsibility for daily operational supervision and processing of HMNB Clyde temporary visitors’ access, permanent site passes, operational support of the Symmetry access database, security clearance assurance checks and the collation of monthly access statistics to support working forecasts. This is a challenging and demanding post, and the successful applicant will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment to support key security outputs, while ensuring that policies and procedures are always followed. The post requires a flexible, customer focused approach. The post will require the job holder to demonstrate excellent effective communications skills as the post will involve communicating daily with civilian staff and military personnel of various grades and ranks. The position allows a certain amount of autonomy and so ideally this role suits someone with drive and initiative. Working to scheduled and changing priorities determining the pace of work, an ability to manage both time and workloads is essential. The successful applicant will be comfortable working in a changeable environment and will have a continuous improvement ethos. Navy Command – Security Symmetry System Administrator

Job summary

His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde (HMNB) Clyde is home to the United Kingdom’s Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Attack Submarines, Sandown Class Mine Hunter Vessels and 43 Cdo Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance base within the Navy Command TLB and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. HMNB Clyde’s primary purpose is to provide engineering and logistical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year.
Royal Navy Armaments Depot (RNAD) Coulport is responsible for the storage, processing, maintenance and issue of the Trident Weapon System and the ammunitioning of all submarine-embarked tactical weapons.

HMNB Clyde is the single operational home of the Submarine Service and will become the United Kingdom’s Submarine Centre of Excellence. An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Security Access Control Team based at HMNB Clyde. We are seeking an enthusiastic customer focused applicant to join a busy and committed team. The Security Symmetry System Administrator post will primarily undertake key tasks to manage the Security Access Control Policy and procedures in accordance with the Access Control Strategy at HMNB Clyde (which includes Faslane Naval Base and RNAD Coulport). This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring accurate management and provision of Automated Access Control database services, conducting quality assurance checks on the operation of the Automated Access Control System infrastructure and provide mitigation for planned power outages and maintenance. Job description

Role responsibilities:

  • Support the Security Access Control Authority (SACA) and Security Access Control Manager (SACM) with the implementation of an Access Control Strategy at HMNB Clyde and the future upgrade of all Symmetry System packages.

  • Manage the Access Control Team at Coulport, the Pass Office Team in Faslane and liaise extensively with the MOD Guard Service (MGS) to identify resource and tasking problems. Report issues as appropriate to SACM.

  • Assist in the day to day management and provision of Symmetry database services and user training for the Symmetry database, checking the competency of new account holders while creating and managing the Symmetry Accounts for authorised user personnel.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks of the Symmetry database. Conduct spot checks of Symmetry records to ensure that Symmetry users are maintaining and operating Symmetry within operating procedures and issue the annual Symmetry Security Operating Procedures (SYOPS) update.

  • Forensically investigate visitor access and pass issue breaches, raising to SACM when necessary, produce Forensic Data Reports from Symmetry as requested by SACA/SACM and report any security access incidents that may require investigation by the CI Section.
  • Carry out weekly checks of the Symmetry Infrastructure across Faslane and Coulport and deconflict and provide mitigation for planned power outages and maintenance. Ensure contingency measures are in place for any system issues and maintain an accurate log of all Symmetry/Turnstile faults and repair timelines. Chasing fixes when necessary.

  • Assist with review of security access control policies and processes, advising SACA and SACM of any identified risk and threats associated with current and proposed business activities for access control.
  • Deliver visiting vessel briefs (often Out of normal working hours), consult with site sponsors, MGS, Defence Industry, other government departments and security controllers to maintain security access.
  • Ensure security access incidents are recorded to enable identifications of lessons and provide focus, advice, and guidance to sponsors, base personnel for risk mitigation purposes.
  • Support the personnel security monthly security data report. Review and collate the relevant information and assist with the production of statistical returns to plan and mitigate against any delays or disruption to business.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Service Publication (JSP) 628 and provide information to the Defence Nuclear Security Regulator (DNSyR) and Assurance Team when required.

Royal Navy Develop Directorate – SPECAP System & Security Manager

The system and security manager (SASM) role is the key enabling role in the team, being specifically tasked with provision of security management and administration. The SPECAP admin role will be responsible for the provision of

  • SASM. Manage all administrative and security processes within the office; preparing and processing SPECAP paperwork; checking / managing security clearances, including STRAP and DV; maintaining all SAP databases and maintaining a comprehensive diary for the SPECAP cell.
  • SPECAP equipment. The role also has responsibility for the correct receipt, handling, maintenance, storage, and dispatch of classified SPECAP equipment.

The office is expected to expand in output over the next few years which means there may be increased development opportunities which may also include for coordination output for up to three E-band roles performing the same function.

The Cyber Capabilities team is looking to recruit an experienced Consulting Technical Architect who will provide technical expertise, oversight and advice to support the delivery of the Government Cyber Security Strategy. You will review, advise and provide oversight for technical programmes of work both within Government Security Group and across wider HMG.   • Assessment of Suspicious Activity Reports under Part 7 of Proceeds of Crime Act in order to ensure that they comply with legislation.
  • Line manage officers within your team supporting them in their work and promoting their personal development.
  • Making decisions in an operational environment within the strict time limits laid out in law.
  • Dealing with enquiries from the reporting sector and partners including all areas of law enforcement.

Tactical Research & Development (TR&D) Officer – G5 NCCU

The National Cyber Crime Unit’s Tactical Research & Development team (TR&D) are an operational deployment team that supports both national and international investigations. We develop and deploy technical solutions and provide technical expertise for the NCA and wider law enforcement  community to enhance investigations into high-end serious organised crime including: Cyber Crime, Child Sexual Exploitation, Firearms and Controlled Drugs.
