Job description

Initial priorities for this role will focus on developing knowledge on trade and sanctions, and engagement with businesses across multiple sectors. You will need to quickly build your knowledge on trade sanctions, working closely Cross Whitehall to coordinate and enhance how we detect and prevent sanctions breaches.

You will lead compliance and enforcement casework in relation trade services sanctions breaches. You will plan how to investigate cases, gather evidence (including through engaging with all parties involved in a breach of sanctions and conducting open-source research) and working with lawyers and other interested partners to determine the most appropriate compliance outcomes.

You will become a subject matter expert, help develop new intelligence and information flows for the team, and own and deliver projects that assist in developing the team’s capability to enable it to support compliance and enforcement objectives.

The role will be based in either Darlington or London. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process. Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role. Most DBT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. Cyber Threat Intelligence Team Lead

Cyber Threat Intelligence plays a key role in the Department’s effort to protect vital services that make a difference to the lives of so many living in the UK. Delivering almost £250 billion in payments annually, while maintaining one of the largest repositories of personal information in Europe, DWP is an attractive target for a broad range of malicious actors. Consequently, it is vital for DWP to identify and adapt to current and near-future cyber threats so that we keep our customers and their data safe. The Threat Intelligence Group (TIG) is part of the Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC), and is a dynamic, innovative and service-oriented team that delivers intelligence-led security to defend the department. This advert is for three Grade 7 Cyber Threat Intelligence Team Lead positions within TIG, each of which have discrete areas of responsibility and leadership which are detailed below.

Tactical 

The Tactical team facilitate the creation and consumption of cyber threat intelligence (CTI) at a more technical level to increase the DWP’s understanding of threat actors in order to improve our detection-of and response-to their activities.  CTI is defined as analysed information about the hostile intent, capability and opportunity of an adversary. The team also focus on scenario generation, adversary modelling and the integration and optimisation of the threat intelligence platform.

Operations

The Operations team are a front-line function who play an integral role in triaging and assessing incoming threat intelligence relevant to DWP.  We cover a wide range of cyber-related reporting and activity through our monitoring, and frequently work closely with technical teams in CRC to share and progress this information. This team also provides tailored intelligence to support the management of security incidents, education and awareness campaigns and data driven insights.

Physical and Personnel Security & Fraud (PPSF)

The Physical and Personnel Security and Fraud team provide open-source derived intelligence across a number of non-cyber dependant threats to the department, with a priority focus on counter-fraud. Proactive and responsive intelligence collection and analysis techniques are used to address a range of different sensitive areas within the department. PPSF also provide intelligence on abuse of DWP’s brand and misleading and malicious websites.
