The Security function’s role is to protect the Department’s people, assets, and information from those who wish to damage it. The IA Hub is a function tasked with providing the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) with a data-led view of DBT’s information risk exposure. It achieves this through securing the relevant data points from key control processes across DBT and then provides consumable reporting products to the SIRO and other key stakeholders. The role will primarily focus on helping to support in risk data analysis within information assurance and supplier assurance.

Job description

This role will support the Deputy Head of the IA Hub with Key Risk Indicators (KRI) management. You will be a key link between the Team, colleagues in the wider department and external stakeholders. You will get the opportunity to work on risk analysis of information assurance and supplier assurance, which will include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Supporting the deputy head of the function in identifying, securing and standardising all information assurance data points that are salient to SIRO reporting.
  • Supporting the IA Hub in producing the functions reporting products. This involves analysing risk data, which is pulled in from functional teams across DBT, performing quality assurance on the data, identify gaps and deriving insights.
  • Undertaking key operational activities/tasks to ensure the functions operates as intended and that its products and outputs are timely, accurate and trustworthy. 
  • Supporting the deputy head of the function in ensuring stakeholders are engaged and managed and that reporting metrics are agreed and implemented to enable an accurate view of information risk exposure for the SIRO.
  • Preparation of internal reporting on key performance metrics which includes identifying trends to inform future plans of the IA Hub and stakeholders. 
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Providing ad hoc support to areas of the wider security team as and when required.

Hybrid working

The role will be based in either Darlington or London. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.

The role of the Intelligence and Threats team within the DfT is to:

  •  Work with policy decision makers in the DfT to ensure policy and capability decisions are appropriately influenced by the threat picture.

Located within HM Naval Base Portsmouth, the Principal Security Advisor (PSyA) is looking to recruit a SEO Information, Cyber and Media Security Assurer to lead its Information Security team and Warning, Advice and Reporting Point (WARP).  The Information Security team and WARP are responsible for providing authoritative advice and guidance on information and cyber security policy, information risk management and the management of all security incidents throughout the Royal Navy.

Part of Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ), the nerve centre of the Naval Service, PSyA is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of security activity and ensuring Navy Command Top Level Budget (TLB) complies with Defence security policy.

Job description

The successful applicant will provide authoritative advice and subject matter expertise to Navy Command stakeholders on information, cyber, and media security and will be responsible for assuring the investigation of information security incidents is conducted in accordance with MOD policy. They will publish and promote Royal Navy information security policy as well as influence the development of Defence wide policy to ensure it reflects the requirements of Navy Command and the maritime environment.

The role has management responsibility and oversight of two distinct functions:

  • The Information Security team, responsible for providing advice and guidance on Information and cyber security policy and risk management issues. The team works closely with Cyber Defence and Risk (CyDR), Navy Digital, and other stakeholders to ensure that the Royal Navy’s information is stored and processed securely, and in accordance with MOD policy.
  • The Warning, Advice and Reporting Point (WARP), responsible for providing a 24/7 reporting point and the administration of all Royal Navy security incidents. The team process initial Security Incident Reporting Forms (SIRF) and, working on behalf of the PSyA Assurers for each security domain, aid the relevant investigation officers on incident management throughout the incident life cycle.  The team work closely with the Joint Security Coordination Centre (JSyCC), MODCERT, and other TLB WARPs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely advice to Navy Command Head Quarters, Royal Navy IT Security Officers, and system users on the effective measures to combat information, cyber and media security threats.
  • Provide advice on information security risk management to ensure the risk to confidentiality, integrity and availability of Royal Navy information is managed effectively and efficiently.
  • Assure the investigation of all Royal Navy information security incidents. Provide advice and guidance to investigating officers to ensure incidents are investigated comprehensively prior to closure and in accordance with MOD policy.
  • Line Manage 2 HEOs in the information Security Team and WARP. Ensure the development of staff to maintain appropriate professional skills and experience.
  • Produce and publish information security Royal Navy Security Directives (RNSDs), review and publish Navy Command Security Regulations (NCSRs) and contribute to the development of Information Security policy across Defence to ensure it reflects the requirements of Navy Command and the maritime environment.
  • Provide support to the Security Culture SO1 to improve information, cyber, and media security awareness throughout Navy Command.
  • Represent PSyA at functional meetings contributing with information security knowledge and insight, and provide updates to the Navy Command Security and Resilience Board.
  • Act as Senior Information Officer for PSyA, providing oversight of the management and security of the organisation’s information.

Person specification

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in, and an aptitude for information and cyber security.  Whilst they don’t need to be a technical expert, a comprehensive understanding of MOD information and cyber security policy, particularly JSP 440, is required.  The ability to understand complex risks and being able to provide clear advice and direction to all grades and ranks is essential, along with a self-starting approach, an enquiring mind, and the desire to learn.  Previous experience or qualifications in information security are desirable for this post, although training and the chance to build relevant experience are part of the job.

Job description

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for timely delivery of specialist support to a number of classified projects, including administration and assurance of IT systems, configuration and testing of security measures, production and update of documentation and accreditation evidence.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and accredited working environment for classified projects.
