The Cyber Security Monitoring Technical Lead Analyst role forms part of the ONS Operational Security team within the Security and Information Management Directorate. The Cyber Security Monitoring Technical Lead will lead groups of analysts to deliver defined pieces of work. You will report to the Cyber Security Principal.

You will interact with all areas of ONS to support and deliver these capabilities. Building successful working relationships with key stakeholders to improve the security of ONS.

The last few years has seen an extensive overhaul of security and information management to meet the challenges of corporate and statistics transformation in technology, methods and practice, the Digital Economy Act and organisational risk appetite. Responsibilities

As a Cyber Security Monitoring Technical Lead Analyst, you will deliver core monitoring activities over multiple security technologies, supporting and guiding analysts within your team, acting as a point of escalation for important event alerting. You will have the ability to:

  • Support the shaping of the monitoring strategy, ensuring requirements, policies and standards to govern all activities and outputs are met.
  • Manage the monitoring, triaging, and investigation of security alerts on protective monitoring platforms to identify security events and incidents, reviewing analysis of security event data to manage security incident response, reporting, or escalation where appropriate.
  • Lead small monitoring teams in the design, development and enablement of automated monitoring processes, recommending and implementing the latest SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) and network analysis tools, techniques and procedures to:
    1. detect malicious activity
    2. ensure continuous improvement through dashboard monitoring or retrospective assessment
  • Establish a detailed understanding of ONS data security and network architectures enabling the delivery of consistent security advice.

The successful applicant will lead our Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations Team, working closely with the Director of Finance, Compliance and Estates to set the strategic direction for the team and providing a responsive, effective service which delivers the highest standards.

The Head of CO STRAP, People and Places is a subject matter expert who will play a key security role at the heart of the Cabinet Office.  Through understanding existing and emerging threats and risks the role holder will ensure resources are appropriately prioritised.  

The post-holder is the lead Intelligent Customer, responsible for ensuring the HO manages and maintains the  STRAP service to an appropriate standard, aligned with Government policies and procedures for protecting STRAP assets within all the department locations. You will be responsible to the SSA and key internal stakeholders for the commissioning, management and delivery of Physical, Personnel and IT Security Projects and their associated professional services stemming from the Government Security Function.  You will be the focal point for the Departmental Security Health Check (DSHC) developing prioritised improvement plans across incident management, physical and personnel domains.

You will be responsible for monitoring the activities of the Government Centres of Excellence (GSECs) and National Technical Authorities in providing security services to the CO Department.  This will demand  strong leadership to ensure value for money, quality of service and efficiency. You will influence and assess shared service opportunities to enable the  Cabinet Office to develop appropriate and proportionate security capabilities to mitigate both existing and emerging threats.

A specialist professional role providing dedicated support to operational and managerial staff.

While working collaboratively with the H&S Manager, you will be required to work independently for significant periods, delivering key Health, Safety and Fire (HSF) tasks including audits, briefings and training.
