As a data scientist in NDEC, you will apply data sciences techniques and technologies to the exploration, triage, prioritisation and exploitation of a variety of predominantly unstructured datasets. You will also be expected to have some skills in data wrangling, data engineering and software development.

NS&I are currently looking for a candidate with suitable experience in financial crime operations, advice and oversight. This is an important and impactful role in the organisation, within the Risk Directorate.

 

The role reports to the Head of Financial Crime (HoFC) and the appointed person will provide day to day oversight of all activities relating to Anti Money Laundering (AML) Counter Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions compliance, fraud and anti-bribery and corruption.

Assist the Head of Financial Crime in meeting the Directorate’s objectives, in particular:

  • Assist the MLRO in drafting the Annual MLRO report as the key assessment of AML risk
  • Assist with the production of regular reports for senior internal and external stakeholders including the Executive Committee, Audit Committee and HMT.
  • Receive and investigate internal disclosures of suspected money laundering or terrorist financing and where appropriate, file National Crime Agency (NCA) suspicious activity reports;
  • Manage all post disclosure issues and ensure outcomes are communicated to the relevant teams in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the process for Sanctions and PEPs screening with particular attention to escalation of positive matches – providing executive management with details to support actions recommended/taken.

The Joint Maritime Security Centre is the name given to UK’s cross government organisation for maritime security. The Joint Maritime Security Centre provides expert, independent advice and support to government (including the Devolved Administrations and Crown Dependencies) on maritime security, including maritime related threat, operational capability and response mechanisms.

The Joint Maritime Security Centre is formed of two operational pillars – the Operations Centre and the National Maritime Information Centre. The Assessment team providing a critical function to enable these pillars to operate effectively, alongside the International Team and the Strategy & Transformation Team.

The Assessment Team is responsible for providing global, strategic maritime security intelligence assessments to inform UK Government decision-making. In providing this service it collaborates and integrates with national and international intelligence and security organisations, to fuse and exploit available material and present a consolidated view of the threat. This critical role provides understanding to underpin the National Strategy for Maritime Security and enables the delivery of a central part of the wider JMSC Mandate.

The Operations Centre provides 24/7 awareness of the UK’s maritime asset distribution and ensures a coordinated and whole-system response to maritime security incidents at sea. The Operations Centre also contributes to the integrity of UK waters and the mitigation of threats at sea by informing operational decision making. On behalf of government, the Operations Centre also owns multi-agency Concept of Operations and Playbooks and delivers a joint exercising calendar.

The National Maritime Information Centre is a multi-agency construct that enables joint operational activity, information sharing & collaboration, and contributes to the UK’s maritime domain awareness and understanding of maritime threats at home and overseas.

The Joint Maritime Security Centre is led by a Head of JMSC (SCS1) who is accountable to the Joint Governance Board comprising sponsors from Home Office, Department for Trade and Ministry of Defence. The work of the Joint Maritime Security Centre falls into four categories, as follows:
