Job description
As a data scientist in NDEC, you will apply data sciences techniques and technologies to the exploration, triage, prioritisation and exploitation of a variety of predominantly unstructured datasets. You will also be expected to have some skills in data wrangling, data engineering and software development.
At this level, you will be expected to lead individual data science projects and coach/mentor more junior data scientists.
Our teams collaborate across the NCA and more widely; good, confident communication is essential in this role.
You will be working at the cutting edge of data exploitation for law enforcement, using your skills in data science to deliver real world impact to safeguard UK citizens.
***All NCA officers must hold SC Enhanced upon entry as a minimum. To meet the National Security Vetting requirements for this role you will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 out of the past 5 years. For more information please see the Candidate information Pack***

Technical skills
We’ll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:
- Experience in the application of modern data science techniques (including machine learning and, ideally, deep learning) using state-of-the-art libraries (ideally in Python) for the exploitation of unstructured data (ideally text).
- At least a sound knowledge of graph theory/network analysis principles and algorithms; preferably good skills in graph data modelling and graph data science (ideally skills in graph machine learning).
- Skills in the production and presentation of concise, insightful data visualisations that are appropriate to the audience, and using these to clearly and succinctly answer specific business/operational questions.
