Working for the DWP Security Education & Awareness (SEA) function you will be delivering security education and awareness activities to the Department. The team work across geographic boundaries to meet the challenges of today’s digital world and help keep DWP protected against security and data protection risks to services, information, premises, customers and colleagues.

Job description
Working for the DWP SEA function you would be part of a busy team delivering security awareness activities to the department. The SEA team is a Security Change Behaviour programme who work across geographic boundaries to meet the challenges of today’s digital world and help keep DWP protected against security and resilience risks to services, information, premises, customers and colleagues.
As a Senior SEA Manager you would deliver initiatives as part of security education and awareness within the DWP. Your aim will be to improve and embed a strong security culture, alongside a responsive and effective security advice and guidance function.
The Senior Security Education & Awareness Manager will play a key role in influencing and providing strategic direction for the Security, Education & Awareness (SEA) programme within the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and wider government through the Government Security Profession (GSP). They will be part of an energetic and enthusiastic team who work across geographic and organisational boundaries to help keep DWP protected against security and resilience risks to our services, information, premises, customers and colleagues.
The role responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following:
- Lead activity to deliver the Security Education and Awareness programme, providing assurance to senior management on activities/timescales etc.
- Manage the development and delivery of security and education initiatives and material across multiple aspects of security and resilience.
- Undertake the procurement, implementation and management of new, innovative digital platforms and products that improve the delivery of SEA within DWP and wider GSP partners where appropriate.
- Ensure effective vendor and stakeholder engagement (both internal and external) to ensure new technologies and products are embedded as business-as-usual activities with effective evaluation and compliance regimes in place where appropriate.
- Ensure the development of business security insight and evaluation, to inform the development of the SEA programme.
- Collaborate with and influence managers across all DWP business areas and the GSP, where appropriate to educate and increase the level of security awareness across DWP and across government.
- Manage a small team and manage and influence virtual teams across organisational boundaries in a fast-paced change environment.
- Engage and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to define, design and deliver a crosscutting SEA training plan and approach that reflect the cross-government agenda and best practice.
- Assess the security education needs of stakeholder groups to identify bespoke security education requirements by target audiences.
- Engage with key stakeholders within The Security & Data Protection Directorate to ensure SEA Programme initiatives and products address identified awareness and compliance needs. Clearly communicate and clarify security policies and requirements in a positive and engaging manner.
- Engage with key stakeholders within technical/digital teams, in a proactive manner, ensuring products procured and/or created are suited to DWP technical infrastructure, and that issues are identified early on, and solutions found where necessary.
- Implement an effective compliance regime including data gathering as a fundamental part of all proposed technical solutions.
Person specification
Successful candidates for this role will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the following criteria: –
- Experience of communicating using a variety of channels such as visual, online, digital and/or physical media
- Practical experience of employing various techniques to target a diverse range of target audiences.
- Experience of collating, interpreting and explaining metrics as part of an overarching compliance regime that are relevant to a business activity such as SEA.
- Experience of implementing new and innovative technologies and products, ensuring outcomes remain focussed and which effectively embed these as business-as-usual activities.
Essential Criteria
Experience of developing and applying new concepts, contributing to the development and promotion of protective security as a business enabler throughout the organisation.
Experience or knowledge of digital design enabling the development of SEA material that is engaging to the audience.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment delivering multiple priorities.
Experience or knowledge of measuring and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of business delivery by ensuring MI is taken into account at all levels.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
