Working for the DWP SEA function you would be part of a busy team delivering security awareness activities to the department. The SEA team is a Security Change Behaviour programme who work across geographic boundaries to meet the challenges of today’s digital world and help keep DWP protected against security and resilience risks to services, information, premises, customers and colleagues.

As a Senior SEA Manager you would deliver initiatives as part of security education and awareness within the DWP. Your aim will be to improve and embed a strong security culture, alongside a responsive and effective security advice and guidance function.

The Senior Security Education & Awareness Manager will play a key role in influencing and providing strategic direction for the Security, Education & Awareness (SEA) programme within the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and wider government through the Government Security Profession (GSP). They will be part of an energetic and enthusiastic team who work across geographic and organisational boundaries to help keep DWP protected against security and resilience risks to our services, information, premises, customers and colleagues.

The role responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following:

  • Lead activity to deliver the Security Education and Awareness programme, providing assurance to senior management on activities/timescales etc.

Capability Protection Security Advisor

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team involved with varied and stimulating MOD business, including protection of military capabilities whilst enabling exports that benefit UK prosperity. This post leads on implementing effective Special Access Programme (SAP) security processes for the Strategic Programmes Directorate SAP portfolio. This includes assurance of all internal SAP activity, as well as SAP work being delivered by industry for the Directorate. The job includes coordinating all aspects of security in the Directorate as well as activities to ensure the Capability Protection team functions coherently. To achieve this the team requires people with good interpersonal and organisational skills who can build and maintain effective relationships with diverse partners.

Capability Protection is the collective term for activities undertaken to protect the Operational Advantage (Op Adv) [battle-winning edge] and ensure the Freedom of Action (FoA) to acquire the equipment we need and use it as we choose, which are essential for, and integral to, the effectiveness of our military capability.

The Capability Protection team of 11 is in two parts, Plans and Operations. Its role is to support the development, and implementation, of strategies across Defence and industry to safeguard UK military capability. The post holder:

  • Ensures the accurate establishment and functional management of Special Access Programmes (SAP) and other compartmented work to confirm compliance with the SAP handbook. The team provides an On Call out of hours service in support of Covert Authorities. This will include providing operational advice to SeniorInvestigatingOfficers and Applicants on how to meet investigative objectives through the management of Covert Authorities. You will be expected to join an on-call rota when you have completed your training.

You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to foster collaborative working.

The team is the interface with the Investigatory Powers Commissioners Office (IPCO) enabling applications through the workflow for approval from the IPCO Judicial Commissioners.

As one of the Vetting Managers, reporting directly to the Head of Vetting, you will manage a number of different teams across all vetting functions. You will work closely with your  Team Leaders, ensuring they meet monthly targets/SLAs, completing vetting cases to a high standard, in line with vetting policy and the NCA’s risk appetite.
Working closely with the Head of Vetting you will oversee team resources and ensure recruitment plans are in place while working collaboratively with HR functions and other Team Leads within IPS.
The department has a busy, high turnover workload and this role requires you to actively work at pace. You will also work closely with other business managers from different departments within IPS as well HR and Recruitment.
You will report high risk cases to the Head of Vetting and will ensure any concerns and or risks are reported immediately.

The Business Support Manager will be responsible for undertaking activities that enable the day-to-day operation of the business and support delivery of the Operations objectives. This will include supporting delivery of senior leadership activities, through Chief of Business Operations. The job holder will be flexible and able to provide business support across the wider Command Support Group. The role requires engagement with internal and external stakeholders to solve problems, provide advice and guidance, and ensure service delivery of the business unit is supported.

The team is organised into two main focus areas, People & Change supporting business planning and control, and Business Management & Governance supporting business as usual enabling activities.
This role sits in the Business Management team and its aims are to look after various aspects of the Command Support Group. These include Strategy and Planning, Demand Management, process development, stakeholder management, business management and governance, and communications.

Responsible for the delivery of all Business Support activities in the assigned business unit.

The focus of the Business Support Objectives and related tasks will depend on the team the individual is appointed to, but will include activities:

  • Branch Security Lead responsible for day-to-day security matters supporting the Ops Directorate, activities including but not limited to:
  • In accordance with JSP 440, ensure that monthly Spot Checks of PM material graded Secret and Top Secret are carried out. The checks are to be conducted at random intervals and any concerns need to be addressed immediately to the HOE Security Team.
  • Maintain a record of all security furniture in your area, including location and present custodian. Make sure custodians name and silent hours contact number is located inside the cabinet and maintain a record of combination date changes for all furniture and alert custodians when a change is imminent.
  • Ensure that the custodians of security furniture are fully aware of the procedure they must follow with regards to the six-monthly rotations of security keys and changes to combinations and the process for the movement and/or removal of security furniture within your area. On change of a combination, ensure the custodian presents a duplicate combination in a sealed envelope to the HOE Security Team.
  • Ensure an office “close of play” security check procedure is in place to eliminate the possibility of security breaches.
  • Act as Point of Contact for collating the information for the DD IT Destruction.
  • Make staff aware of the Zoning Policy and ensure staff are abiding by the policy. Monitor their Floorplate with regards to PED’s. Keep hold of the spare set of keys for the phone and laptop lockers.
  • Ensure that any security matter requiring special consideration is immediately reported to the Head of Branch and the HOE Security Team.

In addition, the role will have Responsibilities for day-to-day business support or administrative activities to support Ops Directorate business enabling activities, including but not limited to:

  • Organisation and delivery of meetings and events, including but not restricted to management boards, site visits and conference days.

Threat Leadership is responsible for the national response to the SOC threats. Our role is to work with partners both inside the NCA and externally to set the strategic direction, facilitate effective delivery of the response, and ensure we understand the impact of our activity. Adopting a threat led and intelligence driven approach, we identify emerging challenges and changes to the threat landscape. A key objective is to tackle SOC threats by maximising the benefit of new capability across the system. The National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) is responsible for the threat of Cybercrime, emerging techniques and the threat this brings to the UK.

The National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) delivers both the threat leadership response and the National specialist operational response. This approach of retaining operational capability alongside the threat leadership element is a different approach to the way we tackle other mainstream SOC threats. It recognises the need to keep pace with technological change with in house specialist expertise working in a multi-disciplinary environment. Working on a national and international level we respond in fast time to rapidly changing threats. The National Cyber Crime Unit are looking to implement a step change in the UK’s overall capability to tackle Cyber Crime, supporting our partners both in industry and Law enforcement to better protect themselves against Cyber Crime.

NCCU leads and co-ordinates Team Cyber UK’s response to cyber- crime, which assures a local, regional and national joint response. We work collaboratively with partners to understand the growing use of cyber as an enabler of serious crime types, developing long-term, sustainable capability to tackle the cyber threat, to enhance the law enforcement response. This enables the National Cyber Crime Unit to determine the most effective way of tackling the growing threat.

Person specification

As Head of NCCU Operations your role will include the following key responsibilities:

  • Accountability for end-to-end delivery of NCCU Operations and performance reporting, integrating capabilities across NCA departments and partner organisations in order to deliver operational impact against the Cyber (and SOC) Threat.
  • To make decisions, at the appropriate level, which maximise the ability of the NCA to deliver its strategy and mission.
  • To ensure that operational risk is managed effectively within the organisation, whilst ensuring appropriate use of NCA resources and adherence to corporate standards and policies.
  • Oversee and authorise operations, disruption and safeguarding activity and projects, ensuring that all operational activity is prioritised and aligned with strategic objectives, nationally agreed standards, complies with statutory provisions and relevant control strategies.
  • Provide advice on legislation, policy, tactical options and evidential opportunities to assist the planning of investigations and operations.
  • Provide high level response and guidance to those investigating major/serious cyber crime and critical incidents including linked cross border offences, co-ordinating services for optimal efficiency and effectiveness through engagement with law enforcement partners.
  • Identify cases, investigative practices, procedures and lessons learnt that have the potential to impact on major/serious cyber crime investigation and training.
  • Manage organisational change activity and effectively plan and communicate proposed changes with staff and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the achievement of performance indicators and budgetary controls in support of business/operational planning.
  • To oversee the incident response function of the cyber crime network.
  • Act as designated authorising officer for appropriate legal authorities (as appropriate).
  • Manage, coach and develop NCA staff.
  • Lead on building effective internal and external partners relations and work collaboratively with stakeholders and external partners.
  • As part of the National Crime Agency (NCA) Senior Management Team lead on strategic areas of work as directed by the Deputy Director.
