Job description

The Security Services Group (SSG) provides specialist electronic and physical security advice, compliance. assurance and services to areas of the public sector that require the highest levels of security protection. SSG is the Government’s provider of expert design, installation and maintenance of the highest accredited security systems using both “in-house produced products and those commercially produced and approved for use on the government estate.
Comprising of around 230 civil servants and based at locations throughout the UK and Overseas, SSG’s services are provided to the most sensitive Defence and Government sites.

The role of an SSG field technician offers the successful applicant the chance to work on a variety of technically advanced projects protecting some of the nation’s most important assets.
 
The position advertised will provide support in relation to the installation and maintenance of security systems, whilst ensuring that a professional, efficient, and cost-effective service is delivered to customers. 
 
Successful applicants will be tasked from home, predominantly working on SSG customers sites throughout the Eastern Region.

You will be provided with a company vehicle and have the choice of a car with private use which will be eligible for taxable benefit, or a van for business use only.  You will be included on the roster for ‘out of hours’ calls for which you will receive a call out allowance (including recall to duty allowance when called out), opportunities for overtime, detached duty visits (overnight stays) and travelling time depending on business needs.
Daily travel time payments are made if journeys meet certain criteria.

This role may require the successful applicant to work away from home at times providing support to the other SSG teams that work in other regions of the country & staying in overnight accommodation as required.

This vacancy is for the role of a Security Systems Technician in SSG’s Eastern Regional Team which has its’ main office in Wyton.

A Security Systems Technician in SSG will be proficient to work safely on the installation and maintenance of a wide range of security systems including:

• Intruder Alarm Systems  
• External & Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems  
• VSS Systems  
• Automatic Access Control Systems  
• Control Room IAS, VSS & AACS Standard Monitoring Systems 
• They will act as focal point on site with day to day liaison with customers 
• Accurately estimate all materials and labour needed for minor works, additions and alterations. Order materials from suppliers and provide equipment lists to Project Manager as appropriate.  
• Provide technical assistance at all levels, build solutions to technical problems including designs. Undertake trade supervision as required  
• Participate in on-call rota
• Undertake all job-related administration in an accurate and timely way.

Full functional training will be provided for certain systems to suit the business needs. 
 
Work is predominately at SSG Customer locations across the Eastern geographic region and depending on the successful applicant’s home locations this may involve regular and frequent periods of detached duty.  
Due to operational requirements you may be required to be detached to other regions or stay overnight at sites that  are unsuitable distances from home address.

Daily travel, is external to core hours.

Your main day to day responsibilities will be:

The Security Data Science specialism focusses on capabilities that enable the detection of attacks and prevention of security incidents. These protections address misuse of our digital systems across the fields of both traditional cyber security and web-enabled fraud.

You’ll join a highly innovative part of the Cyber Resilience Centre that’s driving genuinely novel data-driven initiatives to augment the abilities of our specialist colleagues in teams such as Security and Fraud Monitoring, Threat Intelligence, and Incident Response.

You will be responsible for developing and articulating the vision for the Security Data Science job family, to ensure consistent strategic direction in DWP and set this future vision at all levels of the organisation, whilst defining expected delivery outputs and standards. This includes defining the requirements (capacity and capability) needed in DWP now and in the future, to lead the sourcing, development, and retention of professional capability to support delivery.

Leads within the Security Data Science team own significant cyber security analytics and counter-fraud projects. You will be responsible for developing the sophistication and accuracy of our analytics capabilities in tackling a range of security and fraud risks. Day-to-day, your skills will combine those of researcher, consultant, analyst and programmer – with the ability to develop repeatable procedures in code combined with deep contextual data analysis. You will drive the use of complex techniques such as machine learning to model, map and programmatically analyse the behaviour of complex entities such as users, devices, and attackers.

You will own relationships with key stakeholders in the Cyber Resilience Centre and be responsible for advertising Security Data Science capability: making sure the value it can provide is understood by stakeholders without a data science background.

Job description

Day to day, you will help to plan and deliver physical and technical security measures at protected sites. This includes producing detailed technical specifications; liaising with contractors; managing stakeholders; responding to faults or incidents; and delivering projects on time, on budget and to agreed specifications.

A technical background in security is essential. You should also be capable of managing a variety of stakeholders and taking a project from concept to launch, thanks to extensive previous project management experience. Strong IT, communication and organisation skills are required too, together with an eye for detail.

This role will be London-based but there are options for flexible working including working from home and compressed hours. Please note that this role involves travel within the UK, often at short notice. You will also be required to be on call out of hours, including at weekends and public holidays as part of a rota – fully training and a small allowance for being on call is available. You should also be willing to undergo developed security vetting.

The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom.

The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.

SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.

Our core purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector.

About the Role

Work in the field of intelligence analysis is extremely important to the operations of SIA and the stakeholders which the organisations it supports. As an Intelligence Analyst, you will deliver strategic, tactical and operational intelligence and risk products. You will proactively and reactively gather, analyse and assess information and intelligence from a variety of sources internally and externally. You will also have ownership over producing intelligence and risk products that inform, direct, drive and task corporate strategy, business planning and operational activity.

What you will be doing:

  • Data Analysis -Undertake complex research and analysis at strategic, tactical and operational levels, linking information and intelligence to identify patterns and trends.
  • Risk Analysis – identify high risk companies, individuals, regions, patterns and trends.
  • Information Management– Respond to and manage information and intelligence from a variety of sources internally and externally.
  • Information Analysis– To analyse and assess information and intelligence and manage tasks and activities in line with the strategic and operational risk models. Gather and research information and intelligence where required to produce a complete product.
  • Product Development– develop and produce intelligence/risk products that target resources across desk and field based compliance and interventions stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge and Expertise– To provide an understanding of intelligence and risk management, and the strategic and operational impacts on the Private Security Industry and it’s Regulatory Regime.   • Senior Analyst Support: To support the Senior Intelligence Analyst with the ongoing development of corporate support systems (ICT), the on-going development of the feedback cycle and contributing to strategic intelligence and risk products.
