It is 10 years later, and I’ve had the chance to work on dozens of other projects, but I’ve never forgotten
the biggest lesson I learned; if everyone else is a problem, then the real problem is probably you or in
this case, me.
I enjoy working on construction projects now, and maybe more importantly I enjoy all aspects of the
Concept and Design phases. I enjoy learning from other people, and I enjoy the way they challenge my
Security design. They force me to think about my choices and to approach new problems creatively.
Projects aren’t an exercise in vacuous design anymore. I like finding ways to incorporate design
elements, I really like working with Designers and Technicians to find exciting new ways to leverage
technology. My projects these days are rewarding. I have had the chance to deliver projects across
multiple countries and while it’s still sometimes stressful, and occasionally frustrating, and there are still
many days where I swear, I never want to deliver another new site, the truth is that I wouldn’t ever want
to give it up. Being open-minded and engaging with all the members of the project teams has now led
me to deliver some fantastic projects, I know because now I am also lucky enough to be the person who
gets to manage the ongoing Security Operations in those sites.
