Our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are central to our efforts to foster knowledge sharing and thought leadership within the security community. They form the core of our organisation and play a crucial role in the contributions made by The Security Institute across government and industry.

AI & New and Emerging Security Technologies (AI NEST SIG)

The AI & New and Emerging Security Technologies Special Interest Group (NEST SIG) aims to foster the exchange of knowledge and ideas about cutting-edge technologies, with a particular emphasis on advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and their application in the security sector. The group provides a platform for discussing these innovations and their potential impact on security practices.

NEST SIG supports the broader security community by exploring how AI and other technological advancements can enhance security measures, streamline operations, and address emerging threats. Through regular meetings, webinars, and collaborative projects, the group facilitates the sharing of best practices, case studies, and technical insights. Counter Terrorism (CTSIG)

The Counter Terrorism Special Interest Group (CTSIG) is dedicated to facilitating the exchange of information and best practices in counter-terrorism for the benefit of Security Institute members and their partners. This group provides a platform for sharing knowledge, strategies, and innovations, thus enhancing counter-terrorism efforts across various sectors.

CTSIG supports its members by offering valuable resources such as case studies, training materials, and policy guidelines. Cyber (CYSIG)

The Cyber Special Interest Group (CYSIG) aims to advance the development of cyber security, focusing on its integration with other security aspects to benefit the Security Institute, its members, and society at large. By promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices, CYSIG enhances the understanding and implementation of comprehensive security measures that combine physical and digital protection.

CYSIG also supports professional growth through access to resources like research reports, training programmes, and expert-led discussions. Frontline Operators (FLOSIG)

The Frontline Operators Special Interest Group (FLOSIG) is dedicated to improving the skills, knowledge, and effectiveness of frontline security professionals within the Security Institute. By offering a platform for sharing best practices, industry insights, and innovative strategies, FLOSIG supports the development of those who are the first line of defence in security operations.

FLOSIG promotes continuous professional development through tailored training programmes, workshops, and expert-led discussions. The group encourages collaboration among security personnel, facilitating the exchange of experiences and solutions to common challenges. Insider Risk (IRSIG)

The Insider Risk and Fraud Special Interest Group (IRSIG) focuses on increasing awareness and improving the management of insider risks and fraud within the Security Institute’s membership. The group promotes a partnership approach, engaging with other professional bodies, government departments, and both public and private sectors to effectively mitigate insider threats and enhance fraud prevention.

IRSIG also emphasises the convergence of traditional security functions with counter-fraud measures within organisations. By facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices, the group helps members develop expertise in managing both insider threats and fraud. Through regular training, resource sharing, and engagement, IRSIG supports more robust security risk management across various sectors.

Intelligence Community (ICSIG)

The Intelligence Community (ICSIG) is focused on improving the safety and security of individuals during travel, advancing intelligence sharing practices, and effectively managing protests and activism. The group aims to provide comprehensive support by addressing diverse security aspects related to travel, personal safety, and public demonstrations.

ICSIG shares best practices and innovative solutions for safeguarding travellers, managing personal security, and responding to disruptive or violent protests. Through regular meetings, workshops, and expert-led sessions, the group keeps members informed about current trends, strategies, and emergency response protocols. It also highlights the importance of appropriate responses to protests to avoid reputational damage and ensure safety. Protective Security (PROSSIG)

The Protective Security Special Interest Group is an overarching SIG which encompasses the following specialist groups

The PROSSIG is committed to enhancing security standards and practices across these diverse domains. By fostering collaboration and sharing expertise, the group aims to improve safety in buildings, infrastructure, and public spaces. Through the integration of research, practical experience, and industry insights, PSSIG ensures that concerns are effectively communicated to policymakers and government officials, promoting a safer and more secure environment.

Security, Education, Accreditation, Training & Standards (SEATSSIG)

The Security, Education, Accreditation, Training, and Standards Special Interest Group (SEATSSIG) aims to advance educational and vocational development within the security sector. This involves updating existing standards and creating new ones that align with industry requirements, supporting the Security Institute’s commitment to lifelong learning, professional development, and relevant qualifications in security.

SEATS SIG focuses on improving working practices and skills to meet current and future industry needs. By collaborating with academic institutions, industry organisations, and other stakeholders, the group promotes standards and ethics that drive excellence in the field. SEATSSIG contributes to society by fostering innovation and influencing policy through engagement with educational and professional bodies, helping to shape a skilled, knowledgeable, and ethically grounded security workforce.
