Keep it focussed
Please think about the five core competencies this process is
designed to flush out. We are looking for excellent security
knowledge, examples of how you put that knowledge into
practice, how you use your leadership and communication
skills to deliver this, and what you do on a personal level to
keep moving forward – like CPD, supporting others, being
aware of the bigger picture. If the example you are planning
to use on the form doesn’t demonstrate at least one of these
competencies, find another example!
Keep it current
This is not a life-time achievement award. We don’t need to
know the detail of your 30 year employment history. What we
do need is what you have done in recent years in security, and
more specifically, using the five core competency skills.
• If you are a graduate in a security subject, or a
graduate with an additional Level 5 qualification in
security, then you will need just two years working at
CSyP level, with at least five years in security.
• For all other applicants, you need at least ten years
in security, working at least five of those years at CSyP
level.
Keep it personal
Most people work as part of a team, or at least involve others
in their success. But this is not a team award, its about your
own personal contribution, so lots of “I” not “We” on the form,
please
Show you are making a difference
In addition to the five core competencies, all CSyPs must be
strategic leaders and able to drive security forward. You don’t
necessarily have to be a team leader or a budget holder, but
we’re looking for people whose advice you would trust, who
know their stuff. They don’t wait to be told. They tend to be
proactive not reactive. Is this you? If so, please start filling your
form in ASAP!
