To achieve consistent credibility across the industry, there is a suggested requirement for security
consultants to be licensed or join a bespoke professional register which defines the area of security
in that the individual can supply consultancy advice. Consultants should present recognised
qualifications and an agreed level of experience to practice without supervision and be able to sign off
on any work within their respective fields while guiding those seeking accreditation.
More recently, providers of security products are trying to act as suppliers, risk assessors and
product specifiers, which raises a question of conflict of interest. Companies and individuals doing
this primarily need the qualifications, experience, or independence of perspective to provide these
services effectively. They could pose a potential problem to all their customers without quantifiable
competence.
In conclusion, highly professional consultants advise and deliver outstanding physical security
worldwide, using proven, tested products that trusted companies install. However, unless there is a
degree of control and questioning of those giving the advice and supplying the solutions, the UK, and
further afield, could become a fortress in delivering excessively secure locations, negatively altering
overall aesthetics.
