Chair’s Update:
The Institute’s Growing
Influence
Peter Lavery FSyI
2021 continues to move at a pace for us all
and this quarter saw the UK Government’s 4
step approach to unlocking from our current
COVID-19 restrictions, albeit with a current
bump in the road impacting many businesses
recovery plans. In the last quarterly I talked
about our AGM planning and opportunity for
new Directors, which of course we now have
in Angie Clarke CSyP FSyI, Rowena Fell FSyI,
Rob Kennedy CSyP FSyI and our previously co-
opted Director Sarah Austerberry CSyP FSyI all
of whom in the coming months will assist in a
revision of our strategy. I also want to take the
opportunity again to thank Paul Barnard CSyP
MSyI for agreeing to be our new Vice Chair
and continuing to lead on our Next Generation
in Security initiative.
Clearly the biggest recent news has been from
the Royal Household and the announcement
that The Princess Royal has agreed to become
the Security Institute’s Royal Patron, for which
we all remain truly humbled. Whilst royal
patronage demonstrates the importance
placed on security and highlights the Institute’s
approach over very many years to raising
standards and supporting the security
profession and it’s members, we will not rest
on our laurels and continue to push forward
and work with others in the industry, sector
and Government on behalf of our ever
increasing membership. I want to highlight
and thank my fellow Director, Bob Martin CSyP
FSyI for his diligence and engagement with the
Royal Household on the Institutes behalf over
a period of time to this successful conclusion.
