Yasmeen Stratton ASyI
installed as the New Master
of the Worshipful Company
of Security Professionals
The effect of Covid-19 did not deter the well thought out plans for the installation of
the new Master of The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals, Yasmeen
Stratton ASyI, held on the 11th September 2020 at the magnificent Drapers Hall
in the City of London.
Despite being limited by numbers due to government guidelines, the
ceremony went ahead with all the usual pomp and ceremonial that befits
the installation of a new Master and the progression of the Middle and Junior
Wardens, Steven Emmins and Paul Miller respectively. In addition, there was
also a new Junior Warden, Russell Penny installed. Set beneath the dramatic
ceiling paintings, depicting Shakespearean scenes by 19th century artist Herbert
Draper, the proceedings were orchestrated by Court Assistant Michael Thwaites
acting as The Beadle.
Once Yasmeen Stratton was appointed as Master, the outgoing Master, Michael Barley, was appointed as the Immediate Past
Master. The Wardens, having made their declarations were gowned, and badges of office were placed around their necks by The
Master. Jayne Barley then presented the Master’s consort John Stratton, with the Consort’s badge, following which The Master then
presented Jayne with her Past Consort Badge and thanked her for all she had done in her role as the Master’s Lady. At the conclusion
of the installation of the Master and Wardens we saw a new Apprentice being enrolled. Thomas Layhe made his declaration in front
of the new Master, Wardens and members of the Court, and was bound to his Apprentice Master, Liveryman Rob Lockwood. A
splendid plated buffet lunch was then sponsored by Dan Mead, the Director of Security EMEA at Marsh & McLennan Companies.
Yasmeen commented on being installed by saying:
“I am honoured to be installed as Master for the year 2020-2021 and excited to be leading the Company in its 21st year and
significantly, the start of our third decade. The Security Professionals are a Modern Livery Company with a growing membership,
in recent years attracting more women and younger members. Our growing diversity is important as is our focus to increase
membership of professionals working in emerging areas such as Cyber, Risk and Digital Systems, all who can contribute to our
knowledge, growth and success. CV-19 has set many challenges for the Company, it’s frustrating to be so restricted socially and
therefore unable to fundraise for our charities. We are dedicated to offer help to those that are in critical need and have increased
our efforts this year to help more people. I am hugely grateful to the Security Institute for the October fundraising event in support of
The Security Benevolent Fund, the proceeds will make a difference to current and former security professionals who are in crisis. My
personal thanks to everyone that gets involved and places a bid – good luck!”
