What are the Security Institute doing about this?
Well already, the SyI CPD toolbox is readily available to ALL security
professionals, whether or not membership of the Institute is held.
A simple link via https://security-institute.org/cpd/ and selecting
from the right-hand column ‘Download the 2020 CPD Toolkit’ will
present an Excel spreadsheet.
This spreadsheet has become even easier to use in 2020. We have
done away with the excuses listed above and the spreadsheet is
now fully alphabetical for activities. We have taken the opportunity
to remove any confusion and duplication that may have existed,
and what is now presented is a nice clean alphabetical list of
activities.
For SyI members of all grades from 2021 the SyI App, (available to
download for both Android and Apple devices) will fully reflect the
existing spreadsheet, and will do away with the Formal/Informal
options, and present the nice clean alphabetical list of activities.
If you are an App user for 2020, you MUST submit your CPD entry by
Monday 30th November at the latest, as the new App is not compatible
with the old.
The Association of Security Consultants (ASC); Defence Industry
Security Association (DISA); International Professional Security
Association (IPSA); National Association for Healthcare Security
(AHS); Register of Chartered Security Professionals (CSyP) and
of course the Security Institute, all have activities that are specific
to their own organisations. If you are a member of any of these,
look out on the activity options for these extra choices. These
organisations have set the standard, and already both non-
commercial and commercial organisations are looking to be
included to this list.
How easy is it? Couldn’t be easier. From the comprehensive A
to W (we could not think of any activities starting with X, Y or Z!).
Starting with ‘Attend Institute or CPD Partner event’ right through
to ‘Write personal references/award nominations’ you take your
choice. The tool then tells you how many points you get, either for
the time you put into the activity or for the activity itself. You put in
the number and hey presto, your running total shows up.
