      London Build
      Author: Frank Cannon CSyP FSyI

On 14 & 15th November 2023, The Security Institute did an amazing thing, circa 30 members went to
the London Build Expo to showcase the value the security sector can add to the construction industry.
Our two -co-chairs of the Built Environment Special Interest Group (SIG) spoke at the event.

Mark Tucknutt MSyI, started proceedings when he introduced the security overlay to the RIBA plan
and then Gareth Hulmes BA (Hons) MSc CSyP FSyI explained the value of the SABRE security assurance
programme used to grade the protective security qualities of a building. The SyI team then flitted to
the networking hub to entertain a crowd of construction professionals with a panel of security
practitioners. Narinder Dio MSyI, Chris Stevens, CSyP, Luke Pearce MSyI, and Clair Frame, from our
corporate Partner SelectaDNA, were questioned by Bruce Braes FSyI, CSyP on how to transition
security from a cost centre to an integrated business enabler.

The uniqueness around this engagement session is that London Build isn’t a security expo, it is a
construction expo attended by 30, 000+ builders and their supply chain partners. The SyI stepped into
their world to understand their challenges. At London’s Build 24, The SyI will have a protective security
& fire safety zone with two stages, one workshop area, and a dedicated networking hub, The Security
Institute will be the intellectual partner and will facility the learning sessions. Fancy getting involved?
