The council has appointed its inaugural Board of Trustees to guide the organisation as it establishes
itself over the coming years. This includes:
Chair: Dr. Claudia Natanson - a Global Cyber Security expert who was previously CSO at DWP, MD at
BT Secure Business Service and CISO at Diageo Plc
Vice-Chair: Jessica Figueras - Tech market strategist, Chair of NCT, previously Chief Analyst at
           GlobalData
Trustee: Carla Baker - Senior Director, Policy & Government Affairs UK & Ireland, Palo Alto Networks
Treasurer: Mike Watson - Chief Financial Officer, Marston Holdings, previously with Dell, HP and BAE
           Systems cyber security division

UK Cyber Security Council Chair Dr. Claudia Natanson said:

‘Having spent many years in cyber security, I’m very aware of the excellent work done by many varied
organisations – but I’m also conscious that the time for an umbrella organisation has come in order to
drive the profession forward in a unified way.

It’s a privilege and a challenge to be part of the leadership of the Council, knowing that the future
security and prosperity of the UK depends in part on the Council succeeding in its mission to develop
           the profession.’

           The Security Institute’s Involvement
As part of the Cyber Security Alliance, the Security Institute contributed to a bid to design and deliver
such a council, with our Deputy Chair and Director of Cyber Convergence Strategy Mahbubul Islam
CSyP MSyI leading the Security Institute’s contribution.

The Security Institute had responsibility for Workstream 5: ‘Developing the Profession’. The purpose of
our Workstream was clearly set out by the IET; the aim of Workstream 5 was to develop a clear,
considered and evidenced roadmap for career progression of the cyber security professional, and
should produce a clear approach to ensuring diversity in the profession and means to engage and
           develop the next generation.

In recognition of their efforts in developing the Council, the Security Institute along with the other
15 organisations in the Cyber Security Alliance has been offered the honorary status of Founding
Member of the UK Cyber Security Council.

First Two Initiatives to Develop the Cyber Security Profession
This week, the Council has also instigated its first two initiatives, under its mandate from the
Government to develop the cyber security profession. Two new significant committees are set to be
launched: a Professional Standards & Ethics Committee and a Qualifications & Careers Committee.

Both committees are critical to the objectives of the Council. Raising professional standards for cyber
security is the most important immediate priority for the Council, notably helping to ensure a common
set of professional standards are adopted through education and training interventions relating to
cyber security. At the same time, the Council will work on an initial mapping of CyBOK’s Qualifications
Framework onto a public-facing Career Pathways Framework.

While the terms of reference for both committees will be developed by representatives from among
the Cyber Security Alliance, the committees themselves will be populated from members of the
Council. Membership is open to any organisation with an interest in promoting, supporting and
developing the cyber security profession. Membership is currently open for expressions of interest,
with an application process to commence shortly. The Council will welcome its first members from
           September.
