Chair’s Strategic Update:
Getting ready for the next chapter
Professor Alison Wakefield CSyP FSyI
Recently we were proud to announce the election of the
next Institute Chair from January 2021: our current Deputy
Chair Peter Lavery FSyI. Unanimously elected by his co-
directors at the last board meeting, Peter has already made
a significant difference within the Institute both internally
and externally, serving on our senior leadership team,
chairing the board’s Audit Committee, and leading on a
number of significant external engagement initiatives to
help promote the Institute and its values to government and
other key stakeholders.
I greatly look forward to seeing what the next chapter holds
for the Institute under Peter’s leadership, as we continue
to grow in scope and influence, while feeling a little sad
that my term is coming to an end. The last three years have
flown by and the Chair’s role becomes more exciting with
each new achievement. We expect a seamless transition, as
Peter already holds an intimate knowledge of the workings
of the Institute and excellent relationships with co-directors,
the HQ team, our members and external stakeholders.
He will bring new energy and ideas to the Chair’s position

particular strengths and, in addition to his Security Institute 2019 recruitment figures by the end of October this year, with
activities, he serves as a Trustee of the Cross-Sector Safety and over 100 new members joining us each month and exceeding
