latest annual report, our work includes the leadership of Workstream 5 on Developing the Profession, one of 10 workstreams to
which we are contributing our expertise. Peter Lavery FSyI, Andy Watkin-Child CSyP FSyI (Director of Standards Development),
Rick Mounfield CSyP FSyI and Cyber and Convergence Special Interest Group (SIG) members Naveed Saeed and Ian Fish are also
among those contributing to different areas of the Project.

Our nine SIGs span a broad range of security disciplines (Emergency Planning, Crisis Management, Business Continuity and
Resilience; Built Environment; Cyber Security and Convergence; Counter-Terrorism; Heritage and Faith; Inclusive Security; Insider
Threats; Nuclear and Radiological Security; and Security, Education, Accreditation, Training and Standards), with others in
development. The SIGs welcome both specialists in those fields and newcomers eager to learn, and are becoming our primary
vehicle for thought leadership, delivering learning events, publications and projects; collaborating with external stakeholders and
undertaking public engagement. Our newest SIG on Inclusive Security, under the leadership of Anna-Liisa Tampuu and Lisa Reilly,
is making swift and significant progress in bringing key stakeholders together, establishing priorities and moving these forward,
with an important link already established with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women,
             also known as UN Women.

Behind the scenes, Rick Mounfield, Institute Directors and some of our members represent the Institute on a variety of boards,
panels, working groups and advisory groups in government departments, extending our reach, promoting the critical contributions
of security professionals to societal security and building our reputation as a significant voice for the profession. More visibly, we
are also becoming more active in campaigning and lobbying, having joined forces with the British Security Industry Association and
the Security Commonwealth in an ongoing initiative to improve public perceptions of frontline security workers, and promoting the
recognition of security officers as essential workers.

Our NextGen initiative, led by Paul Barnard CSyP MSyI, our Director of Youth Engagement, is another important dimension of our
external outreach and a further expression of our commitment to positively impacting our world. We seek to promote security
careers to young people through our partnerships with the national Volunteer Police Cadets organisation and the EY Foundation,
with which we have launched a Secure Futures initiative with the EY Foundation to help children from the poorest areas establish
careers in the security sector. We are also participating in the Department for Work and Pensions Kickstart Scheme, which provides
funding to create new job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment,
supporting 30 security work placements in small and medium-sized security businesses nationwide.

The future is extremely bright for the Security Institute. With many of these areas of activity beginning only this year, it is exciting
to consider what might be round the corner in 2021. Watch this space, and please contribute your expertise where you can. The
Institute is run by members and for members, and I thank you sincerely all for the contributions you make and the inspiration and
encouragement you provide. It has been a real pleasure working with you, and I am delighted to hand over to as capable and well-
respected a professional as Peter for 2021.
