Mentoring Platform
Institute membership includes access to an online mentoring platform that is focused on helping
members to improve knowledge, skills and performance. The platform introduces members who
are looking to overcome challenges or to make performance improvements to members who 58%
can share their knowledge and experience, helping establish meaningful connections between
members as a way to support their professional development.
The mentoring platform enables you to register as a Mentor, Mentee or both. Mentors put Increase in
themselves forward on a voluntary basis. Once registered, members will set up their profiles registered users in
and Mentees can then use the Find Mentor section to search for a Mentor who has the skills and 2019
experience they are looking for. Mentors can identify what expertise and skills they can offer and
mentees what expertise and skills they would like a mentor to have, this information helps form
the basis for the matching process.
The platform has been tailored to meet the unique needs of security professionals, allowing members to select from a range
of industry-specific categories of expertise. The categories include preparing for distance learning, preparing for a Chartered
Security Professional application, transitioning from military or police service and an array of other categories. The variety of
categories enable all members, regardless of their professional background, to benefit from a mentoring relationship and
continue their professional development.
Alongside the expertise categories, there are a number of other sections that allow users to customise the terms of their
mentoring relationship. Users are able to select their ‘Mentoring Preference’ defining whether that be to meet face-to-face
or virtually, as well as their region to help identify mentors suitable for face-to-face meets. There is also the option to select
specific security sectors that help mentees find suitable mentors with expert insight that is relevant to their work.
Mentoring relationships have proven to be mutually-beneficial, and mentors within our membership have reported how the
platform has helped their professional development as they can gain a fresh perspective on issues from their mentees.
Using the mentoring platform is also a fantastic way to earn CPD points, acquiring one informal point for every hour spent
mentoring or shadowing.
