MMAG
The last year has been another very busy but successful year for membership services. Since the Membership
Management Advisory Group (MMAG) was set up over two and a half years ago, the group has held 24 successful
meetings and worked through many corresponding actions and member queries.
The overall objective of the MMAG is to provide a voice for members to air their praises, concerns and express
their needs to HQ. The MMAG helps provide focus for membership services and to facilitate liaison between key
Directors who have member service-related responsibilities. MMAG members are representatives of the regions,
corporate bodies, Young Members Group (YMG) and those Directors with portfolios that pertain to specific
membership matters.
Listening to our Members
The MMAG has been co-chaired by John Sephton FSyI since he was elected to the Board of Directors at 2019’s AGM
alongside our Events Coordinator Becky O’Dell.
The MMAG helps support and coordinate communications within the Institute, this includes liaising with the general
membership, Directors and those responsible for the mentoring scheme; the CPD programme; Special Interest
Groups (SIGs). This also includes supporting regional activities across the UK, as well as supporting international
initiatives/colleagues.
A meeting has been held via conference call approximately every six weeks, and these meetings are minuted and
points discussed. The call has participation from members of the HQ Team and members who are currently MMAG
members. To monitor progress an excel spreadsheet is used to track ideas and thoughts with an owner to ensure
necessary updates are provided. During the meetings, the chairs of the appropriate departments will give an update
to where the progress is or was not achievable and to provide feedback to the call.
Within the past year, the MMAG has enabled members to provide feedback, which has informed the Institute’s
membership engagement activities going forward. This feedback has guided the planning of Institute events and
contributed to the launch of the new Institute Quarterly magazine. In addition, the MMAG has helped improve
communications with members by testing and supporting regular updates of the Security Institute app,
Over the past year our Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which started as an idea within the MMAG, has now become
a home for lots of dedicated professionals discussing their areas of expertise. The number of SIGs is set to expand
further in the coming months, with many new groups set to launch including the Inclusive Security SIG (ISSIG),
which will be hosting their inaugural meet virtually at the end of July 2020.
The opportunities to participate in our SIGs has also expanded further with the launch of our new Community
Platform, which contains unique community areas for each SIG to discuss the latest developments within their
sector and share resources.
