The Security Institute Events

           International Security Officers’ Day

The 24th of July was International Security Officers’ Day, and the City Security Council hosted an
event at Lloyds in London to recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution of those working
within this profession. This awareness day reminds us that Security Officers are real-life heroes who
work tirelessly to protect people and places from danger by putting their well-being at risk to keep
us safe. Despite the profession being rewarding, it is a 24/7 occupation, and the challenges security
staff face day-to-day are likely to go unnoticed, with as much work going on behind the scenes by a
group of incredible people who provide a secure environment for others to live and work safely.

The Security Institutes’ President Baroness Ruth Henig, Julie Nel MSyI, and Peter Lavery FSyI from
the Security Institute were in attendance. To celebrate this significant industry awareness day, Julie
was formally presented as Chair of The Security Institute by Peter Lavery, who served as Chair since
2021. We would like to thank Peter Lavery for his hard work and contribution over the last few
years. To mark and celebrate Julie formally being recognised as Chair of The Security Institute, many
industry associations and organisations including the SIA, BSIA, and IPSA were in attendance.

Finally, we would like to thank all the Security Officers for the wonderful work you do.
