As my career progressed, I was promoted to the role of contract manager, and eventually to the position
of regional manager. Working for a company that has its people at its heart has been one of the reasons I
have stayed so long at Corps and in the security industry. Being part of the founding team of Corps Together,
a company initiative that has a passion for ED&I, has been inspiring for me and has allowed me to assit in
breaking down the barriers that hold back ethnic minorities from senior roles in this industry.

However, with every journey, there are obstacles that can make the road ahead feel difficult to navigate.
One particular obstacle in my journey has been the personal toll that having a disabled son has taken on
my working and personal life. But I have persevered and focused on continuing to make a difference in the
       industry I love so much.

I believe that my work is not done - there is still so much knowledge to impart to the next generation about the
wonderful opportunities and career paths available in the security industry. As someone who has been able to
break down barriers and pave the way for ED&I in this industry, it is my mission to ensure that others have the
       same chance to flourish.

If I had the chance to speak to my younger self in today’s climate, here is the advice I would offer:
First of all, it’s important to have a goal and seek advice from experts in your field on how best to achieve it.
Additionally, it’s important to explore the vast array of roles available within our sector besides just front-line
       positions.

Be prepared to learn quickly and take pride in your work and appearance. Don’t be afraid to push yourself
outside of your comfort zone and try new things. It’s also crucial to understand and respect the various
cultures and customs of your colleagues, striving for inclusivity in everything you do while treating others as
you would like to be treated yourself.

In conclusion, my journey through the security industry has been both challenging and rewarding. I am grateful
for the support and guidance of my mentors along the way, and fortunate to have worked for a company that
values the importance of diversity and inclusion. Through my experiences, I hope to inspire others to take
a chance on a career in security, and to help break down the barriers that have historically held back ethnic
minorities from reaching senior leadership positions in this industry.

For those working on the front line, it’s crucial to remember your primary role and the 3 Ps: People, Property,
Places. Security personnel play a vital role in many industries, and without them, operations would come to
a standstill. Take pride in who you are as an essential service provider and the value that you bring to your
organisation. Your dedication is what keeps everything running smoothly, and it’s much appreciated.
