2023 Annual
General Meeting
18th April 2023
It was a great pleasure to welcome our members back to
the Victory Services Club, London, on the 18th April 2023
for our Annual General Meeting. We had 150 members
in attendance at the meeting this year, hosted by the
Institute’s President Baroness Henig of Lancaster CBE
CSyI and Institute Chair, Peter Lavery FSyI.
This AGM was Peter’s last meeting as Chair of the
Institute, which included, for the first time, a Q&A panel
session with all current standing members of the Board
of Directors. This meeting was also attended this year
by Institute Patron, Lord Carlile of Berriew CBE QC CSyI.
Peter asked the Company Secretary, Nigel Churton
FSyI, to confirm the meeting was quorate, which was
confirmed. Nigel then confirmed the acceptance of the
Minutes from the 2022 Annual General Meeting with 482
votes for, 4 against and 53 abstentions.
Peter Lavery opened the meeting and welcomed all
present, before reporting on the year since the last
meeting. Peter made special mention to some of the
Special Interest Groups that have achieved so much in
2022-2023, with highlight to the Counter Terrorism SIG
and the Inclusive Security SIG, and their co-chairs, and
the work that had been achieved by both groups in the
past year.
Peter also touched upon the many events held in the
last few months including the numerous exhibitions
attended, and the event collaborations with the EY
Foundation. Peter also mentioned all of the CPD
events including the London Stadium event with the
UK Crowd Management Association, introduced by
Director Carl Dakin CSyP FSyI, the two events attended
by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, the CT
Lessons Learnt conference, London Pride 2022, and
of course the Security Institute Annual Conference:
Protecting our Future that was held in October 2022.
