Update from the Vice Chair on our Digital Strategy
Sarah Austerberry CSyP FSyI
At the Security Institute Conference in October, I talked about the
strategic activities the Board and Head Office were focused on. Our
priority, having listened to our members was the digital strategy that
would underpin many of the strategic outputs. I wanted to use this
opportunity to provide some more information on how that activity has
been progressing.
What is a digital strategy?
It’s easy to think that this simply means a new website, but for the
Board and Head Office team this is about being smarter with technology to deliver core services and
improving business performance. For us that includes better member engagement and onboarding
and smarter access to relevant business intelligence to drive decision making. It is back of house and
front of house. The digital strategy is a long-term programme of activity.
So how are we prioritising our work? We are, as you know a membership organisation. What matters
to you is driving this. Working with JBi Digital we have spent the last couple of months engaging in an
intense discovery period. Understanding firstly what our current portfolio of digital services look like,
identifying issues (both for users and Head Office team), and building a wish-list. We have reached out
to members through our Special Interest Groups, corporate partners and collated feedback from the
Annual Conference, to evidence our decisions.
JBi Digital have carried out some competitor benchmarking and analysis to help illustrate the art of pos-
sible. This work is key to helping us:
• Identify areas of improvement
• Provide a baseline from industry standards
• Help inform recommendations and provide inspiration
Areas we are focusing on include:
o About us
o Benefits of membership
o Membership application and process
o Members Dashboard
o Community, Mentoring and Professional Development Platforms
Of course, most of this exists as part of our current digital offering, but we know it is disjointed. This
work is focused on streamlining this, so you only log on once to acces your areas, including submitting
CPD evidence throughout the year, applying for courses or CPD events etc.
In the new year we will be moving to the exciting part, the build. This will happen in distinct phases,
so that we can meet our deadline of the 2024 AGM to go live. We will require collaboration with you,
our members and corporate partners to help develop content, so look out for calls to action from our
Head Office team to get involved.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank all those who have already engaged, and of course our
Head Office team who have been running with this addition to their day jobs. if you have any questions
or throughts, please do get in touch with us.
