As new Chair I wanted to witness first-hand how new members are accepted into The Security
Institute and so I attended a Validation Board meeting chaired by fellow Director - Jonathan Schulten
and led by our Membership Registrar - Paula Stanbridge. The professionalism of this Board and the
volunteers who support this from our membership is first class. The rigour with which they apply the
process clearly displays the quality of those we accept into The Security Institute. Thank you to all for
your commitment to this.
As Administrator for the Chartered Security Professional Programme, we have completed a root and
branch review of how The Security Institute is administrating the register and potential applications.
Similar to the Institute, the Chartership has grown in numbers, and we must ensure the support we
give the programme is resilient and in line with changes is legislation and importantly demand. This
review has been completed and we thank our Vice Chair Sarah for undertaking this review for us. Her
recommendations were agreed by the Governance Board and shall be implemented over the coming
months.
I enjoyed meeting up with a great selection of our young members at the Union Jack Club in the
summer, thank you to our Director - Carl Dakin for pulling this together. It was great to hear all their
views and how they came into the industry. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to
the Chairs of our Young Members Group - Oli Lacey and newly to the Co-chair role - Antonia Sheppard
ASyI. I’m looking forward to continuing to work alongside you. If you are under 35 and interested in
becoming involved, please reach out.
The Head Office Team and quite a few Directors, attended the International Security Expo at
Olympia in London, and met up with numerous members answering questions and, as I understand,
securing many new potential members! They received great feedback from the show, and I know
thoroughly enjoyed meeting and engaging with so many members and stakeholders.
It was great to meet with our Corporate Partners during a couple of days of teams meetings arranged
by our Corporate Partners point of contact in Head Office – Aniska (Nish). We want to revitalise how
we are engaging and how we can all gain as much benefit from our partnerships. There have been
some exciting ideas and I look forward to reviewing it all to see how it has developed! Anyone thinking
of becoming a Corporate Partner please contact Nish at the Head Office.
To be quite honest there has been so much going on I could possibly take up the whole magazine
however, I will stop here and finish by saying – I’m excited about our future, I am honoured to work
alongside such a professional and motivated Board and Head Office team, and most importantly, it’s
fantastic to support such a great industry alongside our dedicated members, patrons, stakeholders
and partners.
