The Security Institute is contracted by the Worshipful Company of Security
Professionals to manage the Register of Chartered Security Professionals,
including all administration, recruitment, finances and support to existing
registrants. This contract is due for renewal at the end of 2020, and the
WCoSP have indicated their intention to renew this for a further period of five
years.
Chartered Security Professionals
We have delivered a very successful year of activity ending 2019 with a total
of 147 CSyPs. Of the 36 applications received in 2019, 34 were via SyI and 2
via ASIS UK. 22 new CSyPs were admitted in 2019, whilst 5 were processed
as leavers. All CSyPs remaining on the Register successfully completed their
Continuing Professional Development and continue to adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct.
Following the SyI AGM in April, Bob Martin CSyP FSyI was appointed as the new Director responsible for the Register.
This coincided with Di Thomas MSyI increasing her support to the Register to two days per week, which has given our
management of the Register greater focus and increased ability to deliver results. In 2020, it is planned that admin
support to the Register will increase again.
We were delighted to welcome Baroness Henig of Lancaster DL CBE as the new Chairman of the Register’s management
board in May, whilst Lord Carlile of Berriew CBE QC accepted a new position of Honorary Patron.
The 2019 Celebratory Dinner was held in the magnificent surroundings of the Old Bailey in March, when certificates of
admission were presented and we were able to thank Lord Carlile (as the outgoing Chair) for his wisdom and support
since the launch of the Register in March 2011.
We have received excellent support from the Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) with coverage on
their website alongside the Register for Security Engineers and Specialists – now giving security professionals a choice
when considering top level recognition. This recognition has been very well received by existing CSyPs, as was the
Annual Threat Briefing for Chartered Security Professionals hosted by CPNI in October. It allowed CSyPs to mix with
Chartered professionals from other professional registers, whilst receiving focussed specialist security advice. Over
75% of the attendees were CSyPs, and SyI supported the administration of this event, which is intended to become an
annual feature in the CSyP calendar.
A programme of pre-Application Workshops launched in January 2019 continued throughout the year, with 17 briefings
delivered by Bob Martin CSyP FSyI, Rick Mounfield CSyP FSyI and Di Thomas MSyI and held in UK, Ireland and Dubai
attended by a total of 124 potential applicants. These moved online in 2020, and have proven very successful in
increasing international interest, necessitating now weekly briefings for small groups.
