Carl Dakin QGM CSyP FSyI

             Occupation:
             Security Consultant

Security, Board Director and Other Relevant Experience:
Over the last three years Carl has managed to balance his SyI Director
commitments with managing a small consulting business. In addition,
he has continued to deliver security management education through
the Silverback Security Academy, and more recently has launched a small manned-guarding
company during the first period of lockdown.

As a director, Carl has delivered sage advice and direction to the board. Carl’s portfolio has
included supporting the delivery of the Approved Training Provider (ATP) scheme and he
continues assess applications. He is a CSyP assessor, reviewing applications for the registration
authority. Carl has been involved in multiple Special Interest Groups and supported the Chief
Executive on training delivery with CPNI, the Penetration testing register with Cabinet Office and
supporting young professionals. He is keen to continue this activity if successfully re-elected.

Date of Joining the Institute: 2013

             Previous Security Institute Involvement:
Carl joined the Institute as a Student member whilst studying for a Foundation Degree at Bucks
New University in 2006 then achieved full membership in 2013 and progressed to Fellow in 2020.

He was admitted as a Chartered Security Professional (CSyP) in 2017.

Areas of Interest in the Institute:
Carl has a military background and an interest in counter terrorism and so naturally leans
towards CT, but in recent years he has been developing his knowledge and experience with
managing crowds and crowded spaces, and so the Duty to Protect is a particular area of interest.

Recently, Carl has become the sponsoring Director for the Protest and Activism Special Interest
Group and looks forward to developing the body of knowledge alongside Ray Fellows CSyP FSyI
             and Kenneth MacLeod MSyI.

             Personal Comment:
I’m an advocate of exchanging knowledge with like-minded professionals, which is why I support
the Institute and encourage others to participate. Despite my varied commitments outside of
the Institute, I have never failed to deliver my portfolio and attend all meetings. I hope the past 3
years contribution demonstrates a solid and sustainable personal commitment.
